This was mentioned in the Encores thread but here is a little more information about the potential re-imagining of the Superman musical. I think they probably take all of Max's songs and give them to Luthor and maybe most of the revenge song - although some of the events in that song happen after 1940. The duet between Max and the Mad Scientist would have to be reimagined - but it's one of the better numbers in the show.

I'm thrilled by this article. The biggest problem with the show as it is, which I find very charming but a little empty, is its total disregard of all the great Superman lore. Most of the major characters are missing. Lois doesn't act like Lois (her dream is to be a housewife? Please!)
The idea of setting it in Superman's original era and basing the production on the feel of the Fliescher cartoons...incorporating Luthor and other villains...all of this excites me. I'm a huge Superman fan and a huge Musical Theatre fan and WISH I could make it to see this production. I'm sure that *something* will leak out from it.

Posted: 2/18/10 at 2:35amI saw the original with Bob Holiday and Jack Cassidy. I hope they keepe the multi-panel comic page. That was cool.

Posted: 2/18/10 at 1:56pmIt's about time a It's a Bird... got some attention. What about some of Charles Strouse's other flops like Charlie and Algernon, and especially Rags? Dance a Little Closer has an interesting score, too.

I was down in Dallas seeing the premiere of GIVE IT UP a few weeks ago (which was fantastic by the way), and afterwards the Dallas Theater Center held a talk-back where the they announced that they want to try and bring Cheyenne Jackson down to play Clark Kent/Superman. I was extremely intrigued.
What do you guys think? I know he's already played the role in LA a few years ago, but you think he'd be a good choice?

Posted: 2/27/10 at 5:23pmThe only song not on the album was sung by the Chinese acrobats "Everything's Easy When You Know How". I doubt that would still be in it if the acrobats are gone.
