This may have been posted about already but I couldnt find anything...

Has anyone else ever noticed that during the It's All Over exchange in Dreamgirls, that Jimmy's lines during the song seem completely out of place?

"Now she had nothing to do with this change, it was you..."

We're lead to believe that Jimmy showed up without anyone knowing he was coming, and he seems surprised that Effie is being kicked out, but he would know about the change and that it's her fault?

Ive always found that line annoyingly unfeasible.

Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

Well, don't forget that he heard Deena and C.C. arguing about Effie earlier. And he and the Dreams spent a lot of time on the road. I'm sure he saw a few episodes where Effie acted like a diva. They just don't mention it.

Question: why were Michelle's lyrics in the movie soundtrack changed from the stage version? Onstage Michelle said something to the effect that she'd seen enough fights in show business. The Sharon Leal version has Michelle singing as if she were a newbie because she's just trying to break into the business. Haven't seen the film yet, but was just curious why this change.

Maybe the movie version has Michele as an up and coming newcomer to the business? The lyrics make sense, so it doesn't really make too much of a difference.

In the stage-version, Michelle Morris was spotted by Curtis singing in a Los Angeles nite-club. We learned this in the Las Vegas press conference which followed the opening Las Vegas Dreams Medley -- both were later removed from the show.

In the film-version, we first meet Michelle Morris when Curtis pulls her out of a crowd outside of Rainbow Records and she becomes the company secretary. This works immensley because she's been around the girls so she's a familiar face and then put into the group as Effie's replacement, hence those lyric changes for her:

"...I don't want to stay around this. I'm just breaking into this business. This is between all of you. This is none of my affair".

I think that lyric works very well.
