Jordan, the first thing I thought of was a penis pump, but it does look more like a bong.

It's really disappointing that so many people have already decided not only that they are going to hate it, but are actually hoping that the show fails.

Why is anybody surprised? People do this with just about every show.

Well, you better crawl under a rock for 2 months. A one hit ego maniac director with a 40 million plus budget, a gazillion dollar rock band who don't give a crap about Broadway, three total unknown actors who won't sell a single ticket on their names and a theatre weasel writer out for blood, there will be enough gossip and rumors to last a life time.
Whatever the outcome, this story ain't going nowhere.

I don't think anyone is expecting tickets to sell on the names of the leads. They're clearing aiming for the Spider-Man brand recognition in order to sell tickets.

We can't judge the show until we hear the music and word of mouth. Many people were so skeptical about "Legally Blonde" being on Broadway show and it was a fan favorite for a while in NYC. And now it's a MEGA HIT in London. "Shrek the Musical" also sounded unusual, but most of it's songs are very clever like "I Know It's Today" and "Who I'd Be."

A friend of mine works for the costume team and showed me photos of some of the more-elaborate outfits for the show... and my jaw hit the floor. It has Taymor-genius-ness written all over it! Saw the Green Goblin's costume, one of the Spider-Man costumes and the new female villain (forgot her name). Let's just say there is a lot of tubing, spandex, spiny-things, lights (in the costumes) and A LOT of suspension. Seriously, I think the female villain (if I remember the conversation) never touches the ground. I see dozens of bruised ribs in the future!

Frighteningly relevant. I'm surprised Taymor actually pushed on and let this finally happen, I assumed she'd let it die $40Million+ later but actually pulled through.

But I don't plan on seeing the show because my dear mother's poor bank account will be on life support after buying the tickets.

or
Ten new small edgy productions
or
Ten seasons of off Broadway productions.

And it could all die on opening night if Brantley says it's s***.

I just hope and pray that this money isn't from the usual Broadway investors. I hope it's new suck---- angels because if not, this could sour the well for years.

The budget makes something like this very risky. All the great costumes and special effects mean nothing. This will need to be actually very good to make money. Even with numbers in the Wicked range, it could take two years or more to recoup. And numbers much below that will doom this financially. Good luck.

I love Broadway. I love Spiderman, I've loved the comics since I was a kid. I'm excited for the show and hope it does well.

I'm going to make an attempt to get opening night tickets but I'm sure the tickets will be way out of my price range.
