Not all shows in Vegas run at 90 minutes, Mamma Mia runs a 2 act show with an intermission. Last I looked at buying tickets though, Mamma Mia only runs 2 shows on weekends and it's similar to what most Broadway shows and tours do with a matinee and evening performance. They don't try to run 2 shows in the evening like most other shows in Vegas. The reason casinos do that is simple - MONEY! It has nothing to do with drinking during an intermission.
I hope they bring the Vagas Company to SF.....maybe because of the slumping sales?
There's a promotion right now for $20 discount till end of May I believe....
thru ticketmaster use code thanks.

As it is, most of the songs in the show are cut down from the original 4 Seaons versions so how much more can they cut for Vegas?
I dont know that they will cut in Vegas.
The vegas cast is going to go to SF in Sept. I dont see any point in having them learn the 2 and a half hour show and then have to relearn the 90 min. show for when they go to vegas.

The reverse happened with the current "Hairspray" tour. They started off at 90 minutes for Atlantic City and then expanded the show for other cities. So, who knows? It's interesting that the SF run may extend yet again. I have mixed feelings about tying up the Curran that long but based on the announced SF 2007-08 season, it doesn't look like there are a lot of other touring shows to pick from.
I think that the writers of Jersey Boys will try to negotiate and keep the 2.5 hr. run time for Vegas, just like B'way and Nat'l tours. Not set in stone, but it would be great to watch the entire thing and not a condensed version of the play.
If they did cut the run time, will that specific cast rehearse the shortened version in SF as well when they arrive? With only three full sets (SF, LA & NY), I'm also curious as to how they will have tech rehearsals, dress rehearsals and casual runthroughs if they have to share the stage with the 2nd Nat'l Cast too.
Maybe the two touring casts will extend, then they will have to choose another city in which to build a new set and also to hold their Vegas tech rehearsals. Can't wait for the announcement!

THAT would be interesting...and confusing.
Although the show has done so well everywhere, I wouldn't be surprised if Vegas wouldn't insist on the 90-minute running time. I think the end of Act 1 drags a bit, but it's a very streamlined show as it is.
I don't think there's any uniform Vegas rule that shows have to be 90 minutes, it's just that the casinos that the shows are in tend to prefer getting people out of the seats and into the casinos ASAP. Considering JB has a pretty good record and box office pull, they may be more flexible, especially if they can sell tons of beer at intermission.
It confuses me just a very tiny bit. I'm wondering how they pulled it off when both Nat'l. Cast I and II were both at the Curran. Cast I had regular performances when Cast II had dress rehearsals and tech runthroughs during the same period of time.
It would have been lots of fun if the Curran was opened to the public for Cast II's tech rehearsals. Not sure if it happened that way, but hopefully Vegas's cast will do the same thing when Chicago's cast is ready to leave. The ET footage of Cast I's casual rehearsals were cool! Seeing them perform the beginning of "Big Girls Don't Cry" in street clothes was unusual, but just as great as I remember them.....

I remember reading an article about how they both cast delt with being in the same theater. For that week when both cast were in SF, the current cast would rehearse during the day and when they were done they would move all their costumes, props and what not to a storage area near the Curran and move the Sherry Co. stuff back to the Curran. It was a whole lot of shuffeling of stuff for that week.
Yeah, they used that strange clothing store for storage -- that place that I swear, has only been open once in all my years of seeing shows at the Curran.

I can't even think of a clothing store near the Curran. Where is it?
It's next door, but the gate is often down (even in the daytime), and I think it's vacant now.

I think I remember what your talking about, it's that storefront on the side of the theater where the stagedoor is. I had no idea that was once a clothing store. If it's been vacant for awhile I'm surpised a business hasn't grabbed it. It's in a prime location near Union Square.
I always thought it must be a front for something. It was never open.
Huh:
With five shows already running, Cirque has plans for two more, with new theaters to be built for them: an Elvis-themed show and a phantasmagoria built around magician Criss Angel. And Jersey Boys, a natural LV fit, it would seem, opens a "bigger, better, shorter" version in 2008 at the Palazzo Resort Hotel now under construction on the Strip.

It's definitely possible that current Jersey Boys cast members may audition for Vegas..... I'm also hoping for a full 2.5 hr. show just like all three current JB companies.
One thing, for JB fans that are of gambling age, are there any of you out there with a current VIP account at the Venetian? In that case, it may be possible to have JB tickets comped! I've used my comps for free meals, rooms, VIP club entrance and entertainment at the Venetian and am sure that since the new hotel/casino will be part of Venetian, your VIP points will be good there. As long as your point value is high enough for it..... One thing to consider if you want to watch JB in Vegas without spending a penny for tix, and you may even get primo seats!
Vegas is really good about comping their regulars. The problem is, you have to become one first, or be friends/relatives with one...
Thing I've learned is that you can be a VIP even if you play penny, nickel or quarter slot machines and lower limit tables! I'm not a high roller by any stretch, but considering going to Vegas twice a year and seeing that VIP cards don't expire for up to 24 mos. at some casinos, your points can definitely add up!
I've seen "joe normal" type gamblers get comped to Avenue Q and Spamalot in Vegas. Sure beats paying full price anyday, but would be sure that the JB experience there will be the same truthful story we've watched so far, hopefully without any added "desert glitz".....

...opens a "bigger, better, shorter" version in 2008...
If this is true, "shorter" negates the "bigger and better." I'm afraid they might turn the show into a Four Seasons revue. Crossing fingers that the shorter version won't happen.

Yeah, people already call it that (detractors and otherwise, but often the former). I'm not sure what they could cut unless they shorten some songs, and it's not like the Four Seasons wrote anything as long as The Ring Cycle to begin with.
I would guess they would cut the great American wet dream part...(I always feel it doesn't really contribute much to the story) and the ape suit part....
anybody have any opinion on what scenes would be taken out?
