hey everyone, i'm doing a project on Jonathan Larson [composer/playwright of RENT, i know you all know that but anyway..] and i need to know if he actually had HIV/AIDS. I can't find that information anywhere [crazy, right?!] and it's a vital part of my project and information needed. So if ANYONE knows for sure, or PLEASEEEE respond ASAP !!! that would be fantastic and much appreciated!!
<3;;
cara
No he was not
and yer topic head is offensive
If you can't find it anywhere, you must not be trying very hard. Yes- your topic head is very offensive.
Can you, um, use Google? Information about Jonathan's life (and cause of death) is widely available.
Dramaqueen - I beg of you. Do some research for your project. Read the Rent book, read Anthony Rapp's book, watch the documentary on his life on the Rent dvd.

My Larson passed away from a congenital heart defect, I believe.
For a documentary on Mr. Larson, watch the second disc of the RENT dvd. It's quite informative.
I don't believe he did. I heard that he was HIV positive but it wasn't mentioned on any other website. In addition, it wasn't mentioned on the Documnetary at the end of the movie version of RENT. I'm going to say that he didn't have AIDS. Good luck!
uhm not to be rude, i appreciate all of your help, but how is the topic head offensive? i needed to know if mr. larson had this disease, and i needed to know as soon as possible. what's the problem? excuse me for being what you might see as ignorant, but i don't see where you're coming from. and i HAVE been researching, [and looking hard mind you-- as i'm only allowed to use certain sources-- nix on google for this project thank you very much] and i know that he died from an aortic aneurysm, but none of the sources i'd been looking at said whether or not he in fact, HAD, this disease. and to whomever said to look in anthony rapp's book or on the rent dvd at the documentary, i OBVIOUSLY would, if those sources were available to me at this moment [i am in class,] but clearly they are not, so i had to resort to asking theatre people whom i THOUGHT would help me out in a kind-hearted manner, which you have don't get me wrong [minus the kind part], but now i know next time i have an innocent question, i will certainly not ask any of you, because clearly there is some underlying angst you have here.
however, i appreciate your help, and here's a bit of advice, be a bit nicer to others. they would appreciate it, and so would i.
thank you.
I'm sorry that we jumped on you-- but it seems a little ridiculous that you can ask us for information but not use Google, source-wise. I'm glad that you clarified knowing his cause of death, since so many people for some reason assume that he died of AIDS. Anyway, I've never heard it mentioned that he was HIV-positive, so I'm fairly sure the answer is no. Good luck on your project.

and our advice to you (not to be mean, but to educate you on how to post on internet boards):
don't use other people when you haven't done your work (especially if your work is a google search away or a dvd rental away). it gets seen as rude and unbecoming to hop into a community just to use it and then leave.

If you're doing a revue of his songs-- that's another thing.
If you really want to do that, you should get the DVD of "Away We Go" and listen to the songs "Destination: Sky" and "Time to Get Ready to Go" (I believe that's the title, I'm not sure).
And you should also listen to "Love Heals" if you want to do that as a finale.

To answer your question, no he did not have AIDS or Hiv. Good luck on your project
Okay folks your being RUDE, she can't use google and she in school without access to the DVD or the Book at the moment, so how about getting off your high horse and actually try to help some one out in a nice way? NOt everybody knows every little detail about Larson's life, and even if she is doing a project on his life she trusted you guys enough to ask for your help, and you made her feel like she commited some crime by asking a question.
Anyway, Cara, I don't think he had AIDS, but he was very conserned about it because he saw many of his friends dieing from AIDS. Hope that help you.:)

The original poster can't use google, but can use sources from total strangers on an internet message board (which is even LESS reliable than a goolge search)? If you are allowed to use a message board, than wikipedia would be just as legitimate a source (and which clearly states that JL was not HIV-positive). I don't know why people think that he was HIV-positive or had AIDS. Just because those were topics in RENT didn't mean he had them.

I think the titel could have been a little more subtle.
I remember when I first started posting here that there was a post on Larson, and I corrected someone about his medical history, and got yelled at. Made me laugh...
Sorry if I jumped on you. From your post it didn't seem like you were in class. You're able to use Broadway World but not Google? If you have more time I still strongly urge you to use the sources suggested to you in this thread. This way you'll have real info that you know is reliable. Good luck.

All of you guys are being ridiculous. she asked a question, why is it so hard now a days to ask a question on a forum? Forums are there you ask questions and get in touch with other people. I just think people feel this is a good why to get their angry out since the person is not in front of you and after you can just walk away from it.
Calm down, answer the question and let it be.
I didn't mean to be rude either.
I just didn't like the original title, good luck with your project.

No he did not have AIDS but he did have an aortic aneurysm due to Marfan Syndrome.
Just thought I'd put that useful information in there.
If you want to know more about Marfan check this site.

I'm doing a project on AIDs/HIV, and I was able to find everything.
I'm with Fosse76. Complete strangers on a message board are not a more credible source than a Google search, and I'm pretty sure your teacher would agree.
