I've read that JOURNEY'S END is set to close on July 1st. Does anyone know if there's truth to this one? I still have high hopes of catching the show (possibly late-May or sometime in June). I know it's not right to listen to EVERYTHING you see (or) hear, but I just wanted to get the word out.

Given how it's been really struggling at the box office, there's a chance that it will close before the end of April (but no official announceent has been made yet).
Never heard of it. I did a SEARCH, however - and that's how I ended up here. You've got to let it go (apparently everyone else has).
How much would Tonys help it ?
Doesn't it have to stay open until the Tony nominations are announced to be eligible? I am anxious to see it because of the incredible cast.

No. Unless the rules have changed. Side Show closed in Jan of 1998 and was then nominated for several Tonys that year including Best Musical.
It is a great play, don't get me wrong. But this is not the kind of things audiences, especially American audiences, are going to be flocking to. When Shaw Festival did it in 2005, it was a superb production that left you emotionally shattered. But it's about war, and it shows characters like Stanhope falling apart and losing their minds in the midst of battle. Nearly six years in Iraq and that sort of thing has already been discussed. This is not something people want to see, especially right now.
It's just unfortunate because it is such a great play.

No. In order to be eligible for a Tony nomination a show must have an official opening date during the current season. Seasons begin immediately after the cut off date of the previous year. Therefore any show that has opened since May 10, 2006 is eligible for a Tony nom. (Provided of coarse that they are in a Broadway house.)

One of the finest ensemble casts ever.
I think people have shied off because it is a war story and people are in denial and don't want to think about war especially because of Iraq, but that is a mistake.
This play is a tribute to courage.
