The lawsuit between Julie Taymor and the producers of Spider-man is settled, but one issue remains: what will become of the documentary by Jacob Cohl? I would kill to see this, and if Taymor succeeds in blocking a release - I will plot her downfall for the rest of my days. I used to admire Taymor during the time of Lion King. I've grown to despise her. Does anyone have any info on the documentary?

"One of the more fascinating legal issues in the suit, which was not addressed in the brief statement, is whether or not a documentary on the musical will ever see the light of day. Jacob Cohl, the son of Michael Cohl, one of the lead producers of “Spider-Man,” is said to have explosive footage of the unfolding drama as the musical lurched toward opening night in June of 2011.
In her lawsuit, Taymor demanded that the documentary never be released, maintaining that “it would causes [her] to suffer irreparable harm” in terms of her future career. A person close to the production who was there while the cameras were rolling agreed with that assessment. “Jacob got the fights, the feuds, and the egos. He got all the screaming and crying and emotional meltdowns. Things were so insane during that time that you forgot that the cameras were rolling,” the production associate said. "I can’t imagine that Julie would ever allow it to be released.”

Posted: 7/15/13 at 5:08pmI definatelt want to see this. I know a lot of Julie's meltdowns having lived through a few of them in the years before Lion King! The mere fact someone caught it on film makes me all tingly!

If she were smart--and she is smart--she would have been advised by her team either not to sign anything until she saw the end product, or to sign a deal giving her creative control over how she is portrayed.
Can't imagine her (undoubtedly very well-paid) lawyers/agents/etc would tell her to consent to something like this sight unseen, especially because she's known to be inclined toward drama.
Then again, the ego is a powerful thing. We can only hope she felt strongly enough about the merits of her creative process to just let the cameras roll.
Absent a massive oversight, though, I expect we might see some leaked clips here and there, but never a full finished product.

And SNAFU, please tell us about some of the meltdowns you've witnessed from Taymor - if you can do so without giving away your identity, of course.

Posted: 7/17/13 at 5:23pmI'd prefer not to. But rest assured, what went on with Spiderman, went on with a much smaller budget in many of her other shows. The damn the budget, this is High Art mentality that of course runs amok with producers.

Many of us are lol. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it'll ever see the light of day. I could be very wrong though. I've seen a clip of it and from the looks of it it looks fantastic. The only other thing I know about it is the title is "The Unmaking Of Spider-Man"
