"Just back from Jacques Brel. It was Constantin Maroulis' opening night, and he acquitted himself beautifully. Up there with some very experienced Broadway talent, no less than Bob Cuccioli, Gay Marshall, and the stunning Jayne Paterson. Cuccioli can still act the hell out of a song along with that beautiful voice of his, Gay Marshall captures the Piaf-like vibrato quality of the French bistro era, and Paterson is just plain awesome, as usual. The wonderful surprise was Constantin, who sang the Brel material with confidence and style, and blended in with his castmates as if they had worked for a month or two on the project. Especially enchanting was the Madeline number in Act I, and the duet with Paterson towards the end of Act II. This guy is going places."
