I was watching ET and there is a new show called "Singing Duets(I'm not think bot 100% sure thats the name)." In the show, they pair up "celebrities" like Lucy Lawless and Alfonso Ribiero with singing legend's like Smokey Robinson. Included in the line-up was Jai Rodriguez. Jai's been on Braodway. Isn't this supposed to be for people who don't have a lot of singing experience?

It does seem that he would have an unfair advantage. Most people don't realize that he has been on Broadway, I suppose. We used to just call him the guy that didn't do anything on Queer Eye. :/

Lucy Lawless is a trained opera singer. Not exactly a lack of singing experience there either! I'm not sure what the point of the show is, but I'm going to have to watch to find out!

Did you know that Jai Rodriguez is doing a CD with airgo music? Maybe this is old news . . . I don't know. But when I bought Karmine Alers's CD I looked at the site and he was on there :)

Wasn't Lucy Lawless in Grease?

Actually all of the people who are doing celebrity duets have some sort of singing ability. Alfonso Ribiero, Lucy Lawless and Lea Thompson have all been on broadway. The others also have musical backgrounds. Kind of an even field. I assume the producer didn't want people who were tone-deaf.

I don't think it's an "unfair" advantage. Some of the other people on that show also have singing experience. I'm sure the producers of the show know this.

Also, I think the show is supposed to be celebrities-you-didn't-know-could-sing vs. singers-you-do-know.

I'm guessing Jai's doing this because he is currently recording an album.

Yes, Lucy was Rizzo in Grease for a little over a month!

Wow, I forgot she was in Grease. Only lasted a month though? I could actually see her as Rizzo.

Lucy Lawless is a trained opera singer? wow. I knew she could sing, as I LOVE her voice, but I didn't know that.

I'd love to hear her version of "There Are Worse Things I Could Do".

Lea Thompson was in Cabaret, correct?

I didn't know Lucy Lawless was an opera singer. Well, if they are going to be singing next to someone like Smokey Robinson, I guess they have to have some musical backround.

Lucy Lawless spent three years training for opera (don't know where) then enrolled in Auckland University to study languages and opera. She was there a year before deciding she would rather act than sing. Hmm . . . maybe she should have stuck with singing! I do love her voice but her acting . . . ehh.

I actually was a Xena fan for a while (shamefully ducking head as I type) and someone had gotten me a book on the show and there were biogrophies in there . . . that is how I knew she was trained in opera. I just dug the book out and that is where I got the actual details.

I saw Lucy in Grease and Lea in Cabaret and they were both fine performers. Lucy's run was for about six weeks in the fall of '98, and it wasn't a case of 'it only lasted a month'. That was all she was contracted to do.

I've seen Jai onstage dozens of times. This show is strange to me because some of the so-called nobodies have better voices than the so-called stars. It seems more a way to showcase unusual combinations for duets.

erinrebecca: Just so you know, when I said "Only lasted a month?" I wasn't critiquing. Don't know if you took it that way, but I was just kidding. I could actually picture her in that part.

On another note . . . out of curiousity (and boredom--why am I not tired yet?!) I searched the web and found some videos and clips of her singing and I have to say, I thought she was good back when she was on Xena, but I must have forgotten just how good she is cause she is really good. Guess when the show comes out we'll see though.

I agree, it seems like a lot of the people not known for singing are pretty well known for singing. Doesn't make much sense, does it?

Lol, bwaybaby, I love how we both immediately "apologize" without really knowing which of us was being spoken to. That is the problem with message boards . . . you can't sense a persons tone so everyone is always chastizing each other for things that they wrote that were taken out of context.

His voice is quite enjoyable, this should be a fun show. Cheesy, but fun.
