Posted: 5/7/06 at 6:52pmI have the recording of the Canadian production of JANE EYRE. There doesn't appear to be a Label, but the Label # is JE.01 There are 18 tracks, versus the 25 on the Broadway cast recording. Of course Anthony Crivello was "Rochester" on the Canadian recording versus the now-infamous James Barbour on the Broadway cast recording.

It's extremely rare and long-since deleted. I got my copy from Ebay, but it can go for a fair old amount...
There used to be a site where you could download low-quality MP3s, but I think it (unsurprisingly) disappeared a little while ago

JANE EYRE opened a 2 month run in Toronto in December 1996. (It had the misfortune to open the same week that RAGTIME premiered.)
In the programs, they had a form so people could pr-order the CD. It finally got released in April 1997 and ws sold at the thatre, by mail order and in one store (SONG AND SCRIPT) that sells show Cd's.
The CD was made by Mirvish productions and was a limited pressing. Once it sold out, there were no more pressed. (They were still selling casstte versions at the theatre a few years ago but they appear to be sold out now as well.)
The show was heavily revised for Broadway so the Toronto recording is quite different from the Sony Broadway cast recording. It also has a much more interesting logo!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Posted: 5/8/06 at 2:54pmHow was the recording? Did you like the changes made between the two CD's?

Posted: 5/8/06 at 3:29pmmost of the changes made were for the better. I downloaded some of the songs from that site that no longer exists and I do like having the opening number and "Let Me Be Brave" and some of the other tracks that have more dialogue then the OBC, but for the most part the OBC is superior. the Toronto CD just has some material that they didn't fit onto the Broadway CD or that was cut from the show all together.

Is the "Let me be brave" a take on the "Brave enough for love" finale???
I always like to hear and compare the changes made from the initial performances to the "final product" -- Its fascinating to compare all the changes made to Sunset Blvd from the first performance to the Bway opening...

Posted: 5/8/06 at 11:00pmNo. "Let Me Be Brave" is a song Jane sings near the top of the show. it was in the show on Broadway. they just didn't record it for the Broadway cast recording.
