I agree. There is enough material for 2 acts. If they expand the characters of Jake, Mr. Sharp, and McKenzie, it could work.

Bill Finn rocks. Woot.

so, has anyone seen the performances of this show yet? How are they? Any word on if they are opening up extra seats to the public or extending/moving to a different venue?

It was always a two-act show. This was Ryan Scott Oliver and Kirsten Guenther's thesis project at NYU and the one-act reading people are referring to was their "40-minute reading" assignment. They were supposed to present just the first act.
Anywho, I'm going tomorrow as well and will let y'all know how amazing it is! re: Jane Krakowski and Christian Borle in Mrs. Sharp reading

I went and saw the workshop of Mrs Sharp today, and was completely blown away! Jane Krakowski is simply outstanding, sexy, and hilarious. This is another role that she was born to play. She was spot on with every gesture, expression, and line. She carried the entire show, and you can't take your eyes off of her the entire time! The Music by Ryan Scott Oliver was very good, some funny songs, and some lovely melodies were a great mix. But the upbeat numbers were the best, especially the rock ones with the whole chorus. The show had 12 cast members and 4 band members. 6 actors were ensemble. The other performance that stood out, was by the hilarious, and extremely talented Ali Stoker, who is the only scene stealer from Jane. If this were broadway, Ali would def get a Tony nom, as would Jane. I hope as this show moves on, those two are the ones that need to stay. Curt Hansen as Jake was also very good, also very good looking for the part. The entire show was in fact very similar to "To Die For" as we know the film was based on the same true story. But it was even more similar than I expected. I mean the characterization of the Jake character was almost identical to how Joaquin Phoenix plays the role in "To Die For."
Steve Kazee did well as the husband/detective. But I think, after the performers, the real star is the bookwriter Kirsten Guenther who wrote the dialogue for Mrs Sharp so perfectly, And for Jane Krakowski so perfectly, it was utter perfection! The dialogue was indeed the most memorable part of the whole show, and the characterization of each character. I mean, it was funny as hell, I could not stop laughing! The book is sooooo funny, Kirsten really went above and beyond with this. Can I just say the Jane Krakowski is incredible sexy??? She wore a sexy red short dress, that made Mrs Sharp really as seductive as she needed to be. And the story is so steamy, especially when she's seducing Jake, I mean, it was hot. It was indeed a very steamy sexy musical, and Jane Krakowski totally owns it. What else can I say? I can't wait for this to have an off-Broadway run sometime, preferably in Jane's off season from 30Rock so she can continue the role. The cast is quite big, which makes me think they're thinking big production. It would be great to see on broadway! The entire program ran 2 hours, so its not too long, and its a pretty simple story, but I think Ryan's music lends itself to some big musical dance numbers. I'd love to see where Michael Grief takes it, if he stays attached to the piece. Oh I should also say, the place was packed! It was performed in the theatre where "Next Fall" is playing, and there wasn't an empty seat anywhere, and some people standing in the back. This piece certainly has a lot of interest from what I could tell. And well deserved.

Thanks so much for the review!
How exciting to hear such positive comments about this reading. As a huge Jane Krakowski fan, I must say that I sincerely hope that she stays attached to this project, especially hearing that she's great in the role. Would love to see her originate a part on Broadway once again.
Hope this show gets a full NY production in the near future.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

Oh she has to stay with this project. Its nothing without her. She is just tooo perfect at this point. I don't think anyone attached could imagine anyone else. They've adapted it for her now. This is like "Jane Krakowski: Mrs. Sharp" like "Patti Lupone: Gypsy" She is just too perfect to recast. This thing was made for her, its fate!

I was at the first reading this afteroon and I just want to echo the great sentiments! The show is in excellent shape and the audience was in stiches throughout. This role was made for Jane Krakowski and her chemistry with Curt is wonderful. I'm crossing my fingers for a full production very soon!

Problems/Flaws/Weaknesses anyone?

A little known fact is that in the original screenplay, Pan's Labyrinth was Pan's FLAByrinth. Hmmmmmmm...glad they changed it.
