I haven't heard much about the always excellent Ms. LaManna in Sweet Charity. She is in the role that both the original cast's Helen Gallagher and the revival's Bebe Neuwirth received Tony nominations for, with Neuwirth bringing home the trophy. Why is there no "buzz" around her?
Or am I starting it?
I think you're starting it. I think she did a great job in it, but I don't know if its Tony-Worthy, especially this year in Featured Actress.
Here's why: YES SHE IS GOOD and does VERY NICE WORK with what she is directed to do. However, in her second number. The duet in Act 2 - they just STAND THERE and sing. After a trio of boring ballads in Act 2, the fact that these 2 girls are standing there with nothing to do but a spotlight on them -stage right, is a pitty to both performers, especially LaManna. She probably won't get a nom, but its not entirely her fault. As can be said for pretty much every actor in Charity.
Adored her in Seussical.
oh my gosh i had no idea she was in sweet charity!! (im not some kinda loser, i live in UK so i don't always get to hear about these things) i also loved her in seussical! so does anyone know what she is up to now? and also michelle pawk (who i equally loved in seussical), is she in anything now?...am i right in thinking sharon wilkins is in all shook up?
I'd be VERY suprised if she got a featured actress nod this year. She did a great job, but this year, that category is pretty tight!

While watching the revival of Sweet Charity, I wondered, "How did Bebe Neuwirth win a Tony for this role?" Either the role has been downsized, LaManna isn't doing much with it, or she has been directed poorly.
