Here is an interesting article from August of 1971 (just 8 months after All in the Family premiered) about Jean appearing in Hello Dolly in Fayetteville, PA.

"I changed one line of the song to go 'Wow wow wow fellas, look at the Dingbat now, fellas' that one brought down the house"

Oh to have been there for that!!

Me too, beautywickedlover. I thought of her performance as the fairy godmother as soon as I heard of her passing.

I also liked her as the fairy godmother, but she was even better for me as the giant's wife in "Jack and the Beanstalk".

I loved Jean in "You've Got Mail" as the eccentric aunt Bertie (That's the name I remember) who led a colorful life and helps Meg Ryan manage the bookstore "Shop
Around the Corner".

She was always wonderful in every role. I will miss her.

I got to see her in a one woman show was Eleanor Roosevelt 13 years ago at the Canon Theater in Beverly Hills (since torn down). She struggled a bit with her lines, but she was very professional and wonderful.

I noticed this picture popping up on a couple different friends' Facebook feeds today and just found something kind of wonderful about it (even if Jean does have a bit of a "what the hell is going on" look).

I had the pleasure of seeing her in a summer stock production of DROOD with a totally different persona than the others we were used to. A very gracious lady.
