"Grounded," Jeanine's Tesori's new opera, based on the one-woman play by George Brant, who also wrote the libretto, premiere's this Saturday, 10/28, at the Kennedy Center. I attended the dress rehearsal and found it to be a gripping, emotionally complex production, beautifully sung (the cast has been expanded to several leads, supporting players, and a chorus) and boasting truly dazzling visual design. Bound to be controversial from its conception, the work's creatives could not have imagined the extra wallop it packs with its world premiere landing at the beginning of yet another raw and tragic Mideast war.
