I forget where, but I heard about a version of Jekyll and Hyde where Jekyll and Hyde were played by 2 seperate people.
Does anyone think that this could work, cause I'm a bit skeptical.
It could, but it surely would be easier on the actor. I've always hated the 'confrontation' where the actor has to suddenly change back and forth between characters, it always sounds stupid live, whereas on some of the CD's it is clearly recorded seperately, even with some overlapping at times. I'd always imagined (atleast i this part, if it is played by the same person) that the Hyde parts are pre-recorded and the scene is set on the street infront a shop window and he is argueing with his 'reflection' which would be a 'double' behind the glass, that way you would get the effect you do in movies where the reflection suddenly starts to move and act differently to the person the reflection belongs to.

I've seen the role played by two actors to great effect. They were of similar physical build, and Hyde's face was kept consistently in shadow. I, too, have always had to suppress the urge to laugh during the Confrontation scene, when really it should be an impressive tour de force and emotional peak of the show... Dare I say, I prefer the two-actor arrangement!
The original production at the Alley Theatre used two actors for the Confrontation. Chuck Wagner played Jekyll and Dave Clemmons played Hyde through the mirror. The lighting helped mask his appearance. In the subsequent tryouts, Hyde was a pre-recorded video projected onto the mirror, which was a stunning effect. It wasn't until the Broadway production that a single actor was used for the Confrontation.
Interesting.
It would DEFINATLY improve The Confrontation!

nothing beats single person playing the roles.. The two Roberts who created together on tour (Cuccioli and Evans) were awesome and personally i cant see the role by two actors. While on tour and on Braodway were done totally different, it would be hard to imagine the confrontation scene done any other way
I think it would improve the confrontation.
Every time ive seen it, the actor has a hard time with it
I remember laughing out loud at the confrontation. Couldn't help it. I had to stop watching it. GAWD awkward.
