Jekyll and Hyde
Jekyll and Hyde#0
Posted: 6/24/06 at 1:10pmI just recently saw the tape of David Hasselhoff in Jekyll and Hyde and I was pleasantly suprised. I have heard from a lot of people that this show was supposed to be bad, and that Hasselhoff was even worse. First of all, I think Hasselhoff made a good effort. I mean he wasn't amazing, but I thought his acting and singing were very good enough. Also, I loved the show itslef. I thought the score was fantastic, with many great songs. What are anyone elses thoughts? Did you like the show? Did you not, and if so why?

i really enjoy the show, it's not the best and I know it but I can still enjoy it.
The cast is great on the dvd, well David really tries and he isn't as bad as people say.
The best parts of the dvd cast are Andrea Rivette and Coleen Sexton, two amazing performers!

Posted: 6/24/06 at 1:20pmI did not enjoy this performance. His motorgun vibrato and deer-in-the-headlights expressions during "This is the Moment" are torture to me. I have friends who did this production with Hasselhoff and say that he really wasn't acting at all... just walking around reciting lines. The director actually had to dumb down the staging for him. NOT a quality actor. I think I would RATHER have seen Bob Cuccioli perform Jekyll (and that's not saying much).

David should never have been cast. He simply CAN NOT sing. The only real moment he had was ONCE UPON A DREAM when Andrea had complete control and he was slumped in the chair.
I LOVE this show with all my heart. But casting him was not a smooth move.
Colleen Sexton ROCKED as Lucy! She was as good as Linda Eder, if not better.
However, as far as stunt casting, Jack Wagner was *great*

Posted: 6/24/06 at 3:19pmI'm not ashamed to say it - the score for Jekyll and Hyde is one of my favorite scores.

Posted: 6/24/06 at 7:35pmI didn't care for his performance either, especially the transformation. It seemed that he was really forcing the lines out. But the rest of the cast was wonderful.

I never warmed to Coleen Sexton as Lucy. I can't stand her voice on the DVD.
As for Hasselhoff, the less said about him, the better.
The best trio was the original trio, by far.

Posted: 6/25/06 at 8:14pmI actually loved David as Jekyll/Hyde. I enjoyed his performance a lot! I also LOVE Coleen Sexton as Lucy. She was in the production of "Chicago" that I saw yesterday but I didn't know that it was her. I was so upset when she walked by me and I didn't even get her autograph. Her performance in "Jekyll and Hyde" amazed me.

Posted: 6/25/06 at 8:25pmI think that The Hoff proceeded to attempt intercourse with the floor during his "Transformation."

Posted: 6/25/06 at 8:29pmI have to say I'm a fan or the original recording voices. They will always and forever be my favortie: Anthony Warlowe, Carolee Carmello and Linda Eder. Had I seen that production, I think I would have liked it better than the one that finally made it to Broadway. Bring On The Men is fantastic, whether or not it "fits in with the moral issues of the story."

Posted: 6/25/06 at 8:40pmI thought Hasselhoff was awful on the dvd and that his interview was sort of obnoxious. His expressions during "Dangerous Game" just made me laugh. However, I became obsessed with Colleen Sexton after viewing the dvd! I loved her rendition of "A New Life."

I agree wholeheartedly with BwayBaby18. Robert Evan was and will always be the best Jekyll & Hyde on Broadway. Right now Rob is doing an equally fine job as the Southern Captain in "For The Glory," Frank Wildhorn's revised Broadway musical "The Civil War" in Gettysburg, PA. Dave Clemmons did a remarkable casting job for this show. Rob, Michael Lanning, Bart Shatto and Keith Bryon Kirk along with the other members of the cast are excellent...the music and story emotional. Tour the battlefields and then see the show. You won't be sorry. Performances continue to September 3.
