Could someone explain her appeal? I don't get it. Not meant to bash, just trying to understand her popularity on this board.

i am right there with you.
I have no idea why people like this actress. She is cold onstage, with an average voice and average comic timing. I think people like her because she is a beautiful lesbian in a mainly straight woman's world.
Both Broadway shows she has been in have been massive flops, so i have no idea why people would talk about her as much as they do. The only reason I can come up with is her sexuality being different.

She's gay? Hmmm. Well, there goes that theory.

And btw, I think it's Jenn Colella.

I couldn't disagree more with the above post. I don't find her at all cold. I think she has a very winning presence onstage, and she has great comic timing (try to catch her stand-up routine sometime). Also (sorry Jenn), I don't think of her as particularly beautiful, certainly not in the traditional mold. Besides, why would people like her because she's a beautiful lesbian? That makes no sense to me. Not to mention, that sort of implies most lesbians aren't, and what's that all about? What does sexuality have to do with this, anyway?

People love to talk about flops and they tend to root for the underdog. Not so hard to understand - and it's not as if Urban Cowboy and Hi Fidelity failed because of her.

I think she is a wonderful talent but has had very bad luck choosing projects. She has a great strong voice, an excellent and (very rare now days) individual personality, and a strong stage presence. I have seen her in several of her projects and she as always been a true standout. Anyone who saw her in "Goodtime Charley" at the York can attest to this.

Oh, and by the way, keep in mind, that just because a show flops that doesn't mean that it's no good.

I'm not so sure that too many bway actors have the priveledge of 'choosing projects'. They audition for whatever they can and pray that whatever chooses them turns out well.

I'm sure we could count on two hands the number of actors that can CHOOSE whatever projects they want, and even then...they have to find the producers to make it a reality.

I find Jenn to be a great talent, and think she does indeed exude a lot of warmth on stage.

Twogaab2- I saw her in "Goodtime Charley" as well and she was wonderful. She brought personality and spunk to her character, and had the audience in the palm of her hands.

She was also one of the brighter spots of "Full Monty" at Papermill right now.

Like someone else suggested, try catching her at Birdland or another like venue. (She always seems to be performing somewhere so it shouldn't be that difficult to catch her!)

Marie: Don't be in such a hurry about that pretty little chippy in Frisco. Tony: Eh, she's a no chip!

I saw her with Will Chase in "High Fidelity" and I thought she was terrific. She had a great sense of comedic timing, sang beautifully and looked extremely hot.

I've never seen her on stage but I think she's got a great voice.

The only time I've seen her live was in Side Show and I thought she was very talented.

I saw her in High Fidelity in Boston. I didn't care for the show. She has a great voice and the potential to be great.

I've only seen her in Fully Monty at the Paper Mill, but I thought she was great.

Why are there two posts on this? One of them should be deleted.

"Why are there two posts on this? One of them should be deleted."

A better question is why did you post on both of them? The other one was just going to drop off the board. Now people might get a little confused. Talk to the mods.

To stay on-topic - okay, so that's eight who think people are talking about Jenn because she's talented, with a good voice and a strong stage presence, and one who thinks it's because she's a lesbian.

I'm still trying to thrash that one out - why would being a lesbian be a plus? The world really doesn't work that way.
