re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

From Jeremy's mailing list!

Sorry guy's new update.
The gig on thursday the 3rd of feb will be a joint bill.
Myself and my buddy Josh Kobak will both be performing that night.
My stuff will be exactly the same , i.e. full band, new tunes etc., the
only Difference is that the night will be starting at 11 p.m. on
thursday, Feb 3rd.
We're both hoping to get a little cross fan base thing going.
So If your gonna come down, bring friend and if you don't know him or
would like to learn some more about Josh, check out his web site,
www.joshuakobak.com.
Or just take it from me he's great, you will not be disappointed.
By the way the address of the club is
9 Great Jones st. and their phone number is 212-677-6963

Thank again for all the support
see you there
Jeremy

Yay! Double yay that Josh Kobak's playing too!

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

I have to laugh at the "we're both hoping to get a little cross fan base thing going". Does anyone other than Rent fangirls ever go to these gigs?

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

Maybe? I think Jeremy's fanbase is a bit larger than Josh's. He has more of the general Rent fan pull. Which, if anyone went to his gig that was part of the NYMF can attest, is quite a pull.

Cary Shields?
as in Cary Shields from Taboo.
He was good in Taboo but can he make the transition?
WHat else has he done?

Cary make the transition to Rent? Is that what you mean? Cary's been playing Roger off and on for 7 years. I think he can make the transition.

Hello and yes indeed I am mleshawn one and the same. Thank you for the link I will sure be using that at the first opportunity.

I would certainly love to go to the 3rd of Feb gig, but there is that pesky Atlantic in the way *big sign* will I ever get to live in Manhattan.

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

Yeah, but Cary's band is well outside the RENT sphere.

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

This thread is getting a bit confusing.

But yeah, I've never found ANY of the Rent guys gigs to be particularly "fangirly". At least the more current guys (as in, not Adam). Matt Caplan tends to have the biggest fanbase, and the most Rent related one, Jeremy's is a good balance, and while most of Joshua's fanbase knows who he is from Rent, that's not why they're there at all. I've never been to Cary's gigs, but I would say they're probably around the same balance as Jeremy's. Ultimately, the guys themselves are very about the music, and while their day (or should I say night) jobs are what help garner their followings, most people who go really enjoy the music and are there for that.

I think Jeremy and Josh playing together is a great idea, because they both can use a little extra exposure, and you never know who may come for one and love the other.

I'm in agreement with GFC. Sure, the guys get lots of exposure from being in RENT. Good for them.

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

I wasn't suggesting that they weren't serious about their music, or that the fans who attended didn't enjoy the guys' own music. I was simply saying that their fanbase is made up almost exclusively of girls who follow their careers because of Rent. Have a look around at any of these gigs and probably 90% of the people there are the same crowd of girls who see Rent on a regular basis. I wasn't implying that there was anything necessarily wrong with that, it's just an observation. :)

I've never been to any of their gigs (though I'm going to try and catch Jeremy's next week, if I can stay up that late) but enjoy Jeremy, Cary and Matt's music a lot. As a theater geek, it's fun to be exposed to other venues!

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

I was there on Jeremy's last night - unknowingly. Why didn't the cast make an announcement after the bows?
"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

I love the gigs. They're always so much fun. I've been going to Matt and Josh's for almost three and half years now (as long as they've been back in New York), and have been to a few of Jeremy's as well. It's just great to see them do something that isn't Rent, and isn't theater. Great atmosphere.

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

They did sort of make an announcement when they all stepped back in curtain call and let Jeremy and Krystal take their own quick bow...they never take individual bows (which I love btw) As for the gigs, they are great fun...never been to one of Jeremy's, but I did go to the last Broadway Rockers event, and it was a blast. Can't wait for Jeremy's...I've had his cd for about a year, and it is wonderful...I'm excited that he is playing new stuff too!

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

It was the last for both Jeremy and Krystal. No announcement is ever made at Rent when a castmember leaves. (Possibly because so many of them end up coming back! Considering this was Jeremy's third last, I can understand it.) :)

re: Jeremy Kushnier Farewell RENT tour

I love Jeremy. I was at his last show as well and wish I could make it to his gig next week, but I have to get up for work the next morning (darn elementary schools.. can't they start later in the day!!! hehe...). I did go to one of Jeremy's gigs way back when he was first starting to work on his album (during the footloose days) and I have to say that it was great. I really hope he does well with his music, but he is such a talented person that I hope we don't lose him to the music biz (like we seem to have lost Heather Headley... sniff...)
