Jerry's Girls (Time for a Revival)

I was listening to Jerry's Girls recently and thought to myself, wow they need to do a revival or this show. Or even a one night show. So many amazing songs and to think of how some of the most amazing people could handle it now? And Leslie Uggams was phenomenal in it. Her Kiss Him Now, I Don't Want to Know and It Only Takes a Moment are breath-taking.

Who would you cast?

I saw both the pre-Broadway tour (1/85) and the Broadway production. I enjoyed both, but was disappointed that Andrea McArdle wasn't involved with the Broadway production. Dorothy Loudon on the other hand was an absolute treat!

When comparing the two productions, it ended up being two different shows, just by who was cast. Kind of surprising that Carol Channing didn't make the move to Broadway either.

I saw the Channing/Uggams/McArdle and the Loudon/Rivera/Uggams productions and enjoyed both. They were indeed very different shows. I seem to remember the NY Times review being particularly nasty about Loudon. Something about her being an unwanted party guest, if I'm remembering correctly. I loved her. Her My Type number is still one of my favorite theatrical memories.

The OP started a conversation, asking the input of others here about possible casts in the event of a revival. Just like countless other similar threads here about countless other shows. The two immediate snarky responses were such as to put an end to any conversation even before it began. That's what's rude aout them. Plus the spirit in which they were given.

Also, the OP stated:

"Or even a one night show."

Yes, a full-scale revival might not seem in the cards, but a one night show is well within the range of possibility, considering how many bigger flops get them.

So do you have anything positive to contribute here, like answering the OP's requests about possible casts?

I would love to see Bernadette Peters do some of these songs.

I could see this happening somewhere Off-Broadway, like the York, but I agree with the others that a full-scale revival on Broadway would probably fold pretty quickly.

I would have liked to have heard Bernadette do some of these songs 20 years ago, but not after watching her struggle through "Send In The Clowns" and "Losing My Mind" recently.

I could see it being done out at Paper Mill with the likes of Veanne Cox, Emily Skinner, and Tonya Pinkins, but on Broadway does seem pretty unlikely.

I understand your wholly-justified annoyance, and agree with you 100%.

Except that this is the "Broadway" board, so when the OP writes of a revival, assuming s/he means "on Broadway" isn't such a stretch.

Not trying to pick on you, JRybka, just sayin' that if you meant off-Broadway or at Papermill, you might have said so.

Yes, we are given a lot of leeway in discussing other topics. But when the territory isn't specified, it isn't unreasonable to believe a discussion on the "Broadway Message Board" deals with Broadway.

And my two-sentence post on the subject was hardly a "lecture", condescending or otherwise. If I were really condescending (or even mildly interested), I would enlighten you on the logical implications of the conjunction "or".
