A thread may work for Broadway shows, where you get a few dozen reviewers, but by next Friday there will be hundreds of reviews, so much better off at Rotten Tomatoes. Only two reviews so far, but that will chance as the week goes on...

My reaction to it was very similar to the Variety review. My thing is I was never a fanatic of this show. So I had very little expectations for the film ( I just couldn't care less one way or the other). The whole thing is very by the numbers.. and a little dull because of it. I actually felt the beginning of it ( the mostly non musical part of the movie ) was the most interesting thing. The performances were fine but unmemorable.
Much better film it made me yearn for was The Idolmaker.

Posted: 6/15/14 at 2:37pmI saw a screening and these reviews don't surprise me at all. I enjoyed the movie, but this is pretty much what I expected. (I didn't enjoy it enough to vehemently disagree with the tepid reaction.)

Posted: 6/16/14 at 11:03pmSaw a screening tonight. What a disappointment. The whole thing comes across cheap, like it was filmed to be a Lifetime movie. The makeup and hair are horrible. John Lloyd Young was too old for this part. Christopher Walken is embarrassing. The best thing of the movie is the actor playing Tommy. For the average filmgoer, they will probably love it. But for someone who was looking for more, Clint certainly did not make my day.

The hair was HILARIOUS. The makeup at the end was painful.
I did enjoy the moodiness, but it was such a difference from the tone of the show that it took some adjustment at first.

Posted: 6/16/14 at 11:37pmSaw the film about 2 months ago at a test screening, and I really, really enjoyed it. Having seen the show in NYC, London and on tour quite a few times over the years, my expectations were really high. Loved it! Looking forward to seeing the finished product on Friday when it's released.

Posted: 6/17/14 at 7:17amLizzie, John Lloyd Young's sideburns had a life of their own. Just kept on getting bigger and thicker.

Did the makeup look something like this?

Posted: 6/17/14 at 9:47amMister Matt, in the movie, they look like fake sideburns. Wait till you see the goatee and wig on the actor playing Bob Guido.

Posted: 6/17/14 at 9:55amI thought Erich Bergen's facial hair was a bit much at first, but I got used to it. Maybe just because it was less ridiculous than Frankie's hair, in comparison.
