I appreciate any help!
I'm flying to New York in less than 2 weeks. Monday-Wednesday. (I planned this trip before I realized Monday is less likely to have shows) Anyway, I'm already seeing Les Mis on Tuesday night so my only chance to see Jersey Boys is the matinee on Feb. 28th.
I have a few questions:
Is there a chance to get TKTS tickets for that matinee, full-price tickets, or is it likely to be sold-out?
Should I expect the original cast to be there? (Anyone know of any vacations or recurring absenses or anything like that?)
How long after the show before the cast comes out the stage door?
My reasoning for the above question coincides with my Airlink question. My flight home is at 6:40pm and if Jersey Boys ends at 4:30pm that gives me 2 hours, 10 minutes to leave the theatre and board the plane.
The airlink shuttle says it can take an hour and a half to get from the hotel to La Guardia (due to multiple stops). Has anyone used this shuttle? Do you know if it does in fact take that long? Can I arrange for them to pick me up at a hotel near Jersey Boys, instead of the one I'm staying at?
One last dumb question. If Airlink will pick me up at another hotel (like the Sheraton), would the theatre have a place I can leave my luggage or could I pay the Sheraton to hold it for me?
OK, I realize this is a long post with a bunch of questions but I'm trying to think of everything I can to make this Jersey Boys thing happen. With 2 hours between the end of the show and the flight, I'm worried I won't be able to make it work.
I appreciate any advice/help you all can offer me.
How much 'luggage' will you have if you're going to be in town for three days? Are we talking more than a backpack that you could just lug around with you?
Have you ever been to the city before?
I ask as my preferred way to get to LGA is to take the NW to Astoria Blvd, then hop on the M60 to LGA. It'd be about 25-30 min to get from Times Square to Astoria Blvd, then another 15 min or so on the M60, depending on traffic and such, if everything goes right. Total cost $2. However, if you've got a ton of luggage and/or have never been to the city before I would not advise trying this.
and I don't think Jersey Boys has been on TKTS since something like previews. It's not on the 'last week at TKTS' list.
eta: yep airport shuttles can totally take that long, at least based on my experience the only times I've ever been on them- they make multiple stops within the city to fill up the shuttle, and then also multiple stops at the airport dropping everyone off. I could see it taking 1.5 hrs, depending on where you're located on the pick up/drop off schedule.
And I believe the shuttle will pick you up wherever you call for it to, I mean if you call Airlink for a pickup at a closer hotel how will they know that that's not where you're actually staying?

I've used SuperShuttle (same type of thing as Airlink), and 2 hours and 10 mins after the show ends will NOT be enough time to get to the airport, get through security, and make it on a 6:40 flight. If you are the first one picked up and they run all over the city getting people, it will take awhile to get to the airport. If you are dead set on seeing the show (and somehow are able to get tickets), just call a car service (or get a cab) and pay $30-$35 for them to pick you up at the theater and go straight to the airport.

Thanks, Anakela and Liotte, that's really helpful.
Yeah, I REALLY want to see the show. I'm definately willing to pay full price for it.
I've been to NYC twice, but with a tour group both times. I've never been by myself like this before, so I'd feel better about taking the shuttle or a cab. How long would the taxi take?
Any suggestions on how early I should get to La Guardia for my 6:40 pm flight?
A cab from Times Square is pretty quick, about 25-30 minutes depending on traffic. Once you get to the east side and up the FDR, it's minutes from the trib bridge.
For a 6:40 flight (domestic?), get there around 5:15, I'd say. Security at LGA can either go really quick or takes forever, a Wed night should be no problem.
John Lloyd Young doesn't perform matinees so you'll be seeing Michael Longoria as Frankie.
The show won't be on TKTS.
And they normally take 15-20 minutes to come out of the stagedoor.

Don't worry, he's amazing as well.

yeah, it's a domestic flight. I live in Kentucky.
Thanks antiandrewx and clumsydude.
Is that a definate that he NEVER performs matinees, or just that he tends to not? Is it for the sake of his voice?

Its definate.
He hasn't done matinees for awhile.
He's contracted for 6 shows a week. He does the sunday matinee because that is the only show that they have that day, he just can't perform two shows on the same day. It's for the sake of his voice.
And yeah don't worry, Michael is GREAT. You'll love him.

That makes sense. I don't blame him.
I wish I had planned my trip better, I feel like I'm wasting a day. Very few shows run on Monday. I'm hoping to get to see Spring Awakening Monday night.
I was really hoping to see Jersey Boys but I'm afraid the timing of the show and the flight is not going to work.
Thanks again for your help!

If you don't have tickets by now, there is very very little chance that you can get Jersey Boys tickets for Tuesday, unless you want to pay premium pricing.
As for LGA, you will need to get there 2 hours before your flight. I'd say a 1.5 hour travel from Midtown to LGA is reasonable, there's a lot of traffic that time of the day.

I work there and there is a chance he can get tickets. Plus there is always standing room or student tickets if he is a student. Wednesdays matinee student tickets don't always go that fast. You also can store your luggage at the theater in the coat check room.

Wait a minute...
There is standing room at JB? When can you get it? Do you have to stand in the rush line for hours? Is it always available? How much is it?
Whoops- sorry for the threadjack!

I did and they take 10 people. The Saturday I went there were maybe 5 people in line for it. I was number 9 by the 6:00pm when they sold them. You get it at like 4ish, 5. Its 26.50 just like the student rush. No ID needed, just have cash.
I danced all around when I did SRO.
The poor old lady back there thought I was nuts.
The line was partly formed when I was leaving HAIRSPRAY's matinee.
If you search on Broadway Box, they seem to have a few tickets for each show that you can buy a few days before, but they are usually way above face value. Here's the link if you're interested anyway (I think it'll go right to the JB page):

dreamz- thanks for the information- and I'm a 'she' by the way, and not a student anymore
Thanks to everyone else for their input, also. I keep going back and forth trying to decide if I should try it. I'm afraid with the bad weather, I should make sure I'm at the airport in plenty of time. Which means I'll have to save Jersey Boys for a future trip (and there's no telling when I'll be able to afford to go to NYC again)
Are there any shows that have matinees on Monday or Tuesday, (including off-broadway)? I've been looking around but haven't noticed any. I want to make the most of my trip.

Why don't you try and come from the airport to your hotel by bus and train and see how long it will take you so you know how long it might take you to get back on Wednesday.

because I already paid for the Airlink shuttle, both ways, and it's not refundable.
