Oh darn.
I'm assuming they'll still be doing SRO?

Posted: 6/8/07 at 12:59pmYou know what, it's not even the savvy people who come from out of town. It's the same dumb tourists who think they can go to TKTS and get Wicked tickets, then walk by, see a crowd, and put their names into the lotto when they were about to go inside and BUY tickets. They invariably win, and then can't figure out where to line up or what to do, even though the person running the lotto had just told them. So, sure, if you're not a "dumb tourist," I by all means want to see you on the rush line.

This is temporary right? It's not permenant(sp?).
Maybe they are suspending it for just the summer and once September rolls around and kids are going back to school, maybe they'll bring it back, but not on the weekend since I heard alot of people say that the scalpers show up during the school year mostly on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

So? I'm sure a lot of people would do the same thing if they found out they could save money through another means.
I agree with you how people can sometimes be stupid about not knowing where to stand.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 1:55pmThey should just do a lottery.
#30re: Jersey Boys to suspend Student Rush...
Posted: 6/8/07 at 1:57pmRight. but if everybody who was going to buy tickets just did lotto, the shows would close. I'm just saying. If it weren't for these scalpers, I generally prefer line rush. I like the idea of putting in some work for your tickets, and being a little bit savvy. Now they post the policies everywhere. I didn't mean to be mean or rude, I just get irritated easily, I guess. I used rush before I lived here too.

Except that would never happen, Born to Reign. Not everyone will know about the lotto, therefore you're going to have people who will spend $100+ to see the show. Also, some people like to have their plans secured and would rather buy the tickets in advance rather than have their chances at lotto or rush. The situation sounds kind of extreme, as if it did happen, the losers would just scramble and buy the tickets that didn't get lottoed off.
You're not alone though - I am easily irritated too at some of these people who do the lotto.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 2:12pmLotto, TDF, and Rush should be done away with. I never needed that and I'm far from wealthy. If you can't afford the regular price you should consider going to the theatre less often. I never thought I had to see My Fair Lady, Rrumple or The Music Man 95 times.

Posted: 6/8/07 at 2:12pmLottos work at other shows, though (Wicked!), so why not Jersey Boys?

:) Glad we could come to an agreement.
I just had an experience where I was lottoing for Ave Q. There was this old woman on the phone telling her friend that she was GOING to get them $20 tickets. Now, if you know the lotto girl there, you know why I love her. She made very clear WHERE to line up and WHAT IDs she would accept. This woman was called last, just stared at the lotto girl, then didn't have a proper ID. The girl looked outside, and I swear if everyone who lost hadn't already left she would have kicked this woman out of line. So fine, let everyone do lotto, but make it a LITTLE more special. Don't post the rules, and don't stand for people who don't know what they're doing. Come on, not that hard. Hear your name, line up, pay for your tickets!

Posted: 6/8/07 at 2:15pmYou can't just do away with lotto, rush, or TDF! I think everyone deserves to be able to see a Broadway show, and many people can't because of the ridiculously high ticket prices. I know I would never be able to see shows if I had to pay full price, and this is not about seeing shows multiple times.

But I am doing away with those things Little Sally and, furthermore, you're going to have to pay to pee

I agree 100%. With the different price ranges available now, Broadway is becoming more affordable and accessible to everyone. It's not about seeing shows multiple times, it's about seeing what's out there. Had I not tried lotto/rush, I probably wouldn't have seen Wedding Singer, Producers, Hairspray, or Wicked.

Here here! I'm also a fan of bwaybox coupon codes. Never would have seen The Producers without it (and glad as hell I didn't pay full price)
I suppose I could have rushed it, but I'm a little picky about my seats

But Tom148502, that's a premise so absurd!

If it wasn't for rush/lotto, I wouldn't have seen A Chorus Line, Moon for the Misbegotten, Company, Coram Boy, Frost/Nixon, Grey Gardens, Jersey Boys, Journey's End, Legally Blonde, The Little Dog Laughed, Spring Awakening, Tarzan, & Spelling Bee. (And aside from Company, I've only seen those once each.)

that means june 20th i will be rushing for jersey boys,
boys after exams
Honestly, why do producers insist of rising the prices so ridiculously high. urgh, i am not "rich" i am a student who saves her money. its so expensive to watch a broadway show regular price. and the lotto urgh i hate it when tourists win =_=....the wicked lotto.6 times already lol
i agree about having a seperate rush or something along those lines for the new york tri state area students. i love musical theater, its real not fake. and taking away student rush tickets is horrible, because regular price tickets are too expensive. and people ask why theater is dying out....
high prices are the problem.

See, Elphie, you get it. Those throngs of people. Gimme a break, it's not THAT good! And it's ALWAYS the people who showed up at the LAST second or who speak no English and don't even know what they're seeing! I remember once a girl came at the last second, and Joel let her put her name in and the crowd actually booed. I was hysterical. I also remember a time when he made his announcement about duplicate names. A girl stepped forward saying she had put hers in twice, thinking it would increase her chances. He told her she was DQ-ed. Did her name get called? Of course.
Hysterical

Posted: 6/8/07 at 6:20pmI love it when a few people ruin it for the rest of us. I still haven't seen the show. Not sure how I'm gonna do that now.
#44re: Jersey Boys to suspend Student Rush...
Posted: 6/8/07 at 6:22pmWhat are they going to do with the seats while it's suspended?
#45re: Jersey Boys to suspend Student Rush...

Posted: 6/8/07 at 7:16pmThere ARE choices to make in life. Just imagine how many more shows you could see if you didn't HAVE to have a cell phone, an MP3 player, a computer, internet service,a DVD player, designer coffee and designer clothes, spring breaks at the Florida beaches, way too many trips home other than college breaks.
#47re: Jersey Boys to suspend Student Rush...
Posted: 6/8/07 at 7:34pmYeah, and college students have to, you know, eat and buy textbooks and things that aren't um, fancy electronics and trips to the beach, thank you very much. It's valid that sure, you choose where you splurge, and yes, it's true that money saved on x, y and z could go toward something else, but it's not really fair to assume that college students only feel dependent (for lack of a better term) on rush because they're spoiling themselves with the cash they have.
