"Jerusalem" is absolutely amazing

I'm glad this turned out well for you, since in an earlier thread you expressed concerns about going, after having read some negative comments about the play.

So that's a relief.

I wouldn't be shy about stagedooring. It's so commonplace nowadays.

I've been told by people who stagedoored this play that the cast was very nice to their fans.

All you need say is that you enjoyed their performances. I'm sure they'd be more than pleased. That's what every one is telling them at the stage door.

And why not mention "The Office" as well? He'd probably be very happy to hear you like his overall work.

Everyone likes to be told they've done a good job.

So I finally stagedoored "Jerusalem" yesterday. First of all, the crowd was very small. Maybe about 10 people waiting, which was surprising. Then after about 10 minutes of waiting, Doris Roberts (Marie in "Everybody Loves Raymond") was led through the stage door. Wow, that was a great celebrity sighting!

Anyway, I'm very shy and so I was nervous to meet Mackenzie Crook, who I love. Well, he came out about 20 minutes after the show ended and the stage door bodyguard guy told me to walk over to him (when he saw that I was too nervous to approach him). I did, and Mackenzie started signing my Playbill. I told him that he's a great actor and he thanked me. Then I told him that I loved him on "The Office" (he played Gareth) and he actually smiled, looked at me, and thanked me! Unfortunately, I did not quit while I was ahead and I did a "thumbs up" and said "Gareth!" He did not respond to that oddness, and that was it.

How embarrassing. Ugh, now this is why I don't like to meet celebrities I really love. Oh well.

I did have to really force myself just to stand there and it was only when the stage door guard guy gently nudged me to approach Mackenzie did I actually do it. Of course I wasn't addressing Mackenzie as Gareth, I was just giving a thumbs up to the character but I said "Gareth!" at the same time, which was odd and totally out of character for me. No idea what I was trying to convey there. LOL.

He was very nice and I did notice that he was extremely shy, as he circled around some of the actors from the show who were standing there (in an actual circle!) and he did not actually join in on their conversation. Then he started to smoke a cigarette and basically stood outside that circle by himself. At that point, I took a picture of him. He must have been thinking, "Okay, the crazy thumbs up/Gareth lady is now photographing me..." Ha, well he was wearing pencil-thin cigarette pants that he must have bought in England and I couldn't resist!

Anyway, you're so right, I did overcome that fear (even though I kicked myself back to Queens afterwards for the weird thing I said to him).

And thank you for that comment about trying not to let shyness hold me back in life. I do feel that I've missed out on lots of things because of it. There are some points where I'm able to be talkative (like at work, for instance) but it's much harder with more social situations. Oh, well.
