Fantastic post, thanks DeNada, and just the kind of conversation I was hoping to see. And wow that Avenue Q closed at a loss in the UK.
Re The Outsiders--it always immediately makes me think of the Newsies fanbase in the US--I know the recent Newsies production in London was... well received? (OK, obviously I don't know as I'm not sure just how well received it was) although it hasn't transferred despite rumours it still could.
Bad Cinderella got a big pass from UK critics because it tried so hard to open post COVID. But they squandered that goodwill the way they treated the cast in London (hired bew cast right before suddenly closing cast found out about closing from social media, called the show a "costly mistake"), and by the time it got to NYC many other shows were opening so it didn't get the rare new show bump.
The show did also make some changes too that were not well received.
Mickey Jo has a ton of videos on this (he wasn't that into the West End version either)
