Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:27pmWanted to know if anyone knows anything about the production of Jesus Christ Superstar playing at Thousand Oaks, CA in March 2007. Is it an "Off-Broadway" production with any original cast members, etc? I am looking for a performance that is as close to the original as possible and just wanted to make sure it was not a new, different show that would not be similar to what I had seen before.

Call the theatre.
And I feel safe in saying that none of the original cast members will be appearing in the show...

Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:31pmWouldn't it just be a regional production and not anywhere near off-broadway? And I'm pretty sure the show came out of the 70's so I question how new it is and there won't be any original castmembers, I think I can say that with certainty.

LOL.
If it were off-Broadway, it'd be in New York.

Thousand Oaks, CA
Implies that it will not be "Off Broadway". It must be a local production. It certainly wont be your best representation of the original. But I cant imagine a director in Thousand Oaks, CA taking too many liberties in the production.

Posted: 2/11/07 at 11:49pmThis is the "farewell tour" starring Ted Neeley, who played Jesus in the motion picture. He understudied the role of Jesus in the original Broadway production while playing a leper and a reporter. So he is in fact an original cast member, though not in the role you'll be seeing him play. He's as close as you're going to get to seeing something akin to the original production, though this production is not based on that staging either. Keep in mind too that despite his experience with the role, the man is now 64 years old, roughly double the age the real Jesus was when he died. Updated On: 2/11/07 at 11:49 PM

Here's another fairly recent thread if you wanna see what some of us thought about it:

Aw, my hometown. I saw the King & I and the Music Man at the Civic Arts Center when I was about ten, but haven't really been there since.
Aren't the tickets cheap enough for it not to matter?
