I need some help - I'm going for either Judas or Jesus.
I have a very wide range that suits a lot of different types of music. Any suggestions? This is kind of a toughie for me.

Posted: 8/16/04 at 11:44amI dunno, I think Rent might be a bit overdone. If you are auditioning for an ALW show maybe another song from one of his not as well known shows (POTO, Cats) would work. Perhaps another composer with a pop edge would work too. I can't think of any songs on the top of my head because I'm not a huge fan of ALW music.

Lost in the Wilderness from Children of Eden is amazing, has a wide range and is from a biblical show.
Close every door from Joseph is good, is biblical, and a Webber show as well
A World Without You from Children of Eden is amazing as well
Hope I helped

Yeah, I would avoid anything from RENT, unless absolutely necessary.
Songs from Tommy, BatBoy, and Children of Eden are all excellent ideas.
As for Joseph, nothing really in that score comes even close to the range that Jesus or Judas has to sing, so if I were going for those roles, I would stay away.
Also, singing something from the score is not a bad idea either. I used to be of the school of thought that you couldn't sing anything from the show, but on occasion, I have, and gotten callbacks. It can't hurt. Especially if you have one of the songs already in your repetoire.
"Pity the Child" from Chess is also an excellent idea.....especially if you are going Judas, and you can sing that song in your sleep. DON'T use it unless you have practiced it.

Posted: 8/16/04 at 2:35pmI second "Lost In The Wilderness". Also, try "King of The World" from SFANW and "What Is It About Her?" from Lippa's Wild Party. If you're really up for a challenge, you can try "How Many Women in the World" from LaChiusa's Wild Party.

Posted: 8/16/04 at 9:44pmI second something from Tommy or Bat Boy. Even though stylistically, Rent is also a rock-opera, I think something a wee bit edgier but still rock is best. I would stay away from other ALW songs, definitely.
