Ooo..I'm happy that it's coming to San Francisco!
I was suppose to be in production of JCS here in SF, but they yanked the rights because of this tour!!! Boo... We did a different show, but had a good time!
I saw the tour with Ted and Carl Anderson several years ago in Dallas - really enjoyed it! They were amazing and I liked the staging....

Posted: 11/4/06 at 9:32pmGeriatric Jesus? No thanks. Didn't care for him in the film, can't imagine he's improved, don't care to see a non-Equity tour.

"don't care to see a non-Equity tour."
I saw a non-Equity tour of RENT a couple years ago and I thought it was amazing. The talent on the stage could probably rival any on Broadway.

Equity/non-equity-
ALthough they are primarily a Non-Eq company,Troika produces both
They produced the Equity Evita Tour Last year.
They are not producing Aida that is Big League Theatricals, which probably will never produce a Union Tour, considering their History with the Union. I remember last year that I got a letter with my Equity Card renewal that said that we are forbidden from working for big league theatricals in any capacity.
Big League also produces European Tours which are, for the most, part out of Equity's Jurisdiction.
RENT is produced by NetWorks and is a Non-Union Tour.
I just wanted to clear this up since there was some mis-information in a previosu thread. But Now that I think of it I don't know why I bothered.

Posted: 11/5/06 at 11:25amI saw this tour and it was a fantastic show. I've seen every show on Broadway in the past ten years, most off-Broadway and many national tours. Seeing Ted Neeley on stage was one of the best performances ever, for me. I had my doubts regarding his age but it wasn't an issue, in the least. He sounded better than he did in the film version and it was a performance I didn't want to miss. The production overall was good, with some excellent performances, including the girl who played Mary. To refuse to see a show simply because it's non-Equity is silly, in my opinion.

This might sound bizarre, but how did they do the Judas's Death scene? Was it with the tree like the original or more like the newer version where he goes out of view and a dummy is somehow released? Just wondering. Can't wait til it comes by me in May. Probably will be even better as the actors settle into their roles.

The photos look suspiciously like the Ted/Carl tour I saw about 10 years ago, which....not good. The music was amplified to physically painful degrees. Ted either spoke or literally SCREAMED all his music (think Tippi in The Birds, if it were a heavy metal concert). The metal set made a huge ruckus whenever someone moved on it. Herod was, in a word, gross. Kind of like a bald leather tranny with buttless chaps and feathery sleeves shaking his butt at the audience for laughs. The lite-brite cross at the end from which Jesus YANKED his own lifeless body from to free himself of the velcro and ascend into Heaven swinging back and forth. But I think the real star of the evening was the giant inflatable Jesus head and hands in the temple scene. That was real special.
Anyway, I hope it's not like that tour.
