Has anyone gone to any of the shows yet? I just paid $123 for my wife and I to go see it here in Columbia, SC on November 11th (which I am still trying to grasp the fact that I just spent that much money). We are on the floor level, but towards the back (which is in an uphill arc), so we can see the whole stage but still be close enough to see facial expressions and whatnot. CAN'T FREAKIN' WAIT! This is my favorite musical and I have never seen it live before.

Posted: 10/16/06 at 6:05pmI'm buying tickets for it when it comes through here at the end of our season next summer soon as they go on sale. I've seen lived productions of this, but I'm almost wetting myself in excitment over the fact that it's Ted Neeley as Jesus.

Posted: 10/16/06 at 6:14pmI am too! All I have seen is the movie version (which has it's moments) and the new dvd version (pretty bad). So, I really hope this is a great show! Are you going to try to get an autograph afterwards?

I just saw the show this past weekend here in Michigan. It played the Macomb Center for the Performing Arts which is about 1200 seats (comparable to a theatre on Broadway in size and arrangement, except there is much more room between the rows). It was packed, except for a few scattered empty seats, and I attribute that to the Tigers being in the playoffs (people with tickets going to the game instead of attending)... at intermission on Saturday night lots of people scrambled for their cell phones to check on the game and thats when the winning homer was scored...the whole theatre broke into applause. I'm sure the people backstage were wondering what was going on.
Anyway... loved the show. Everyone was in and in fine vocal form. Having seen Carl as Judas, wasn't sure how I was going to like Corey... but he did a great job. I also have to say in all the productions I've seen this was IMO the Best Mary. I was a little concerned if Ted was still going to be able to hit all the 'high' notes.. he did and sounded great, especially during the Temple scene. Interesting Herod number, kind of like a bad Vegas show... but better sounding (hope that makes sense... I don't want to ruin it for you).
All in all I think it was a great show, much like the 'old' tour ... not that horrendous 'updated' version (with the wall street scene)of a few years ago.
In case you're interested there is Lots of merchandise to be bought, in fact we were the 1st stop to have the new programs (and have to say that is the 2nd nicest program I've ever scene in quality and pictures, and I have over a hundred).
Went to the stage door after the show, met everyone except Corey (someone said he usually goes out the front doors).... it was about 40 degrees that night so to cold for Ted to come out and meet everyone so instead they took groups of 6 Inside to meet, get autographs and take pictures with him. He was absolutely fabulous, truly a great guy and very appreciative of the fans.
I hope to have a chance to see it again before the end of the tour.

This tour is all-new.
The Mary, Christine Rea, performed the role prior though in the 90s Ted Neeley JCS tour. She's simply fantastic in the role, and what a boomer of a voice!

Posted: 10/17/06 at 3:17pmSo is this production up to par with Broadway? Or can you tell it's a non-union cast. I'm deciding on whether or not to spend 50 bucks to go see this.

"What's 'fair' about 'farewell'?"
What do you mean farewell tour? There is no such animal as a show by Lord Lloyd-Webber that ever says good-bye.
They are like herpes--they're always waiting for you.

Posted: 10/17/06 at 5:37pmI saw this last month in Buffalo. And it was amazing! Almost went again , but I knew my seats would not have been as good. Yes, Ted Neeley is . . old . . but he is still great. Just not as sexy as he once was . . And Corey Glover was stupendous! He is AMAZING in every way! If you get a chance to see this GO!

Posted: 10/17/06 at 5:49pmI liked Gale Edwards' staging the best. I guess it just depends on which one you saw first. a modern approach to the material was exactly what I needed to find a connection most of the productions that I see are based on the way it was done in the 70's which with caftans and bellbottoms was modern at the time, and still makes the older generations squeal, but not mine and not me.

This is a Troika production it is a "Farewell Tour for Ted Neeley" from what I understand. I think this is equity as I believe Ted and a few other cast members are equity members.
This is not the Broadway version that was done a few years back. It is more like Ted Neeley's tour of 1996-1997 that he did with Carl Anderson that was a fantastic tour.
ALW has mentioned he might be bringing JCS back to the US, I presume to Broadway. He also mentioned doing a reality TV show for JCS as was done recently for casting "The Sound of Music."
I realize many will get upset by this, but the one in the UK did quite well. Several of the ladies who did not win got record contracts and cast in other shows on the West End.
Yours,
Carolyn

Carolyn, I'm not convinced that this Troika tour JCS is being booked as an Equity production. Troika sent me their press package on their series of shows which include AIDA, RENT, JCS, Joseph, Man of La Mancha. They all play at the Commerce Bank Arts Center here in S. Jersey as one night rentals. I am seeing AIDA on Thurs.
It's possible that Neeley may have gotten permission from the Union to do this. That is sometimes the case with non- Equity shows. I am planning to do an interview with Ted Neeley when I see it, if he is agreeable.

The show could be under the equity umbrella ruling for non-equity. This happened with Starlight Express and I thnk the JOSEPH tour with Patrick Cassidy was also considered equity as he is a member. So you see the equty logo on the program and the musicians logo. I know that Troika does both non-equity and equity tours. Once they only did non-equity.
Yours,
Carolyn

Posted: 10/17/06 at 11:52pmJoseph...with Patrick Cassidy was most definitely Equity. This one seems debatable. If I could find a complete cast list I would know for sure.

www.troika.com ... will tell you that Troika is doing Joseph, JCS, and Cats this season... it will also tell you that all shows this season are non-eq. Please refrain from wasting our time with your stupidity. Stupidity born from laziness is unacceptable.
Cheers.
