Pippin, I am curious as to why you reacted the way you did. It seems a little excessive. Jewish Week is a respected newspaper for the Jewish Community and often reviews theatre pieces. Is it so strange that they would review the newest offering by a prominent member of their community?
I also suggest you re-read the article as to your word count in respect to Mr. Brooks.
The term you used to describe the article is disgusting and anti-semetic.

Really? disgusting? So sorry I am not PC enough for you. I was reacting to the self-important tone the reviewer has put forth.

oppressors? And what else is Brooks’ oeuvre, but an attempt to shatter the boundaries of polite society in the name of subversive Jewish humor?"
c'mon it's a musical comedy. I don't think symbolism need apply.

I am laughing at the pompousity of the reviewer, not the Race of the Jewish people, so get over your self.

There is really nothing to get over and it's not really a case of being "PC"... the term you think was humorous is offensive. Your inital posts had no indication whatsoever of your later explanation.

If that reviewer is a complete and total pompous ass like this one is, I'll happily laugh and applaud any comment from Pippin or anyone else that takes the wind out of his/her over-inflated sails. And in fact, I'll have a few choice words of my own. I hate smug pomposity and fatuousness -- almost as much as I hate ultra-PC people with no sense of humor.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't JEWISH WEEK criticize THE PRODUCERS because Max Bialystock was played by an Irish Catholic?
The reviwer sounds like he has a Catholic sibling who moonlights at THE LONG ISLAND CATHOLIC news paper. If you've ever seen the paper you'll know what I mean. Every week they used to publish a list of the current movies with ratings - the "C" meant "Condemned" which meant you had to repent your viewing in the confessional booth.
