Hey guys-
Jill Paice was, I heard, out of WiW today. Any idea if she's ok? Will she be back for the next few performances?

Posted: 11/24/05 at 9:09amIt's Thanksgiving. Maybe she was able to leave to be with family? I don't know how Broadway shows work with regard to that. I hope she's OK too.

Sorry, I don't know.
But I think Jill Paice is a great and beautiful performer with an outstanding voice. I'd like to hear about her understudy, if she's really not going to be performing tonight.

Posted: 11/24/05 at 1:08pmConsidering most of the leading cast is from England, and that last year, thanksgiving was during the opening weeks of Woman in White, Jill was probably allowed to spend thanksgiving with her family, since she couldn't last year.

I saw WIW again last night. Jill Paice was out but her understudy (Elena Shadow) was just as good. That cast has had gone through so much in such a short period of time. One of the ushers told me that she will be out for a few days because she lost her voice....I hope she finds it LOL
The show was better for me the second time. I was able to follow it closer and picked up stuff I missed the first time. I think Ron and Adam have grown in thier roles too. I suppose the new people will grow more since the others have already done it for year.
THEY MUST DO A BROADWAY RECORDING OF THIS SHOW!!! The voices are soooo much better here and I need to take some Brazier home with me! Yummy.

Are you sure most of the cast from England?
Aren't Maria Friedman and Michael Ball the only actors to come over with the show?
Anyhow, Angela Christian is also an American, and she opened in the musical in London as well. By your logic, she would have been allowed Thanksgiving off as well. But no one mentioned that she wast out last night.

Yes, that happened to me the second time I saw it in London. Even details of the scenery were much easier to appreciate after one has had the novelty of looking at computerized sets.
I hope Jill is back by midweek next week as I am looking forward to seeing the show on Broadway this time.

Posted: 11/24/05 at 9:59pmJill Paice was handpicked for the role. She is the show's ingenue and Webber and the entire creative team have said that she is like the baby of the show. They love the girl like a daughter. Angela Christian is much older and has been in the proffessional world longer than Jill.

And what does any of that have to do with anything????
You clearly do NOT know why Jill Paice was out Wednesday, so don't pretend that you know why. Don't try to bullsh*t us.

She did not lose her voice. I spoke with a personal friend and she traveled home for the weekend. Im sorry if I seem to not know what Im talking about....
She left on Wednesday and is expected to be back on Monday. She does have a soar throat, but that is not the reason she is out.

Posted: 11/24/05 at 11:26pmHer understudy is phenominal and portrays Laura in a more mature way. Just a funny fact: Jill and her understudy, by sheer coincidence, have almost identical classical and musical theater repertoires. I thought this was funny, as did casting directors in New York.

Jill Paice and Angela Christian, despite being American born, both originated their roles in London...

Yes, I knew that.
My answer was in reponse to GClef2's original post which seemed to imply that because the entire London cast came over with the show (which is false) and that since Jill was the sole American that she would be the only one to get Thanksgiving off since the English don't celebrate Thanksgiving. GClef2's supposition did not hold water since Angela Christian is also American, and she was not out of the show on Wednesday.
So, now we know that Jill for whatever reason has the whole weekend off.

Close family friend. I spent Thanksgiving with them.Jill said that if at all possible, she would like to go back as soon as she can,but she is permitted to be gone until then. So, you may be able to catch her before Monday.

Gclef2-Where did you guys spend Thanksgiving? In New York or is she out of the city?
***I went to the show last night and Elena Shaddow was amazing. She doesn't belt as much as Jill does but her voice is much more seemless. Big highlight for me is "I believe my heart" and the entire scene. Becase she wasn't flipping around so much the song seemed to flow much better and her last note (ETERNITY) was amazing! I have never heard it sung like that. Both girls are very talented and beautiful, no doubt about that. Woman in White is lucky to have such great understudies (seeing as how they have already needed them so much)

"Jill Paice was handpicked for the role."
Are not all cast members "handpicked" for thier roles? They all audition. They all have to earn thier roles.
Besides, why are you taking it so personaly? Are you friends with her or the "creative team"?
Anyway, she's great in the part and so is Elena Sadow so no loss if she's out for thanksgiving.

Posted: 11/25/05 at 1:00pmYes. I am close friends with Jill and the Paices and Jill was called by Andrew Lloyd Webber himself to take the role, when she was still in the US. He heard a clip of her voice and called her immediately. She flew to London, sang for him and he gave her the role immediately- it was hardly an audition. I'm sorry if I seem to take things too personally, but she is the kindest, sweetest and most generous girl you will ever meet.
