Jill Paice apparently out of WiW today

She is such a joy to her family as well, and they are so proud of her. Even at Baldwin Wallace, her alma mater, everyone just raves about how nice and mild she is. Her understudy, though, is equally as nice and the two girls have become good friends.

I don't know if she'll be back, but I saw her understudy, Elena Shaddow, at the matinee on Friday and she was AMAZING.
I second whoever said her voice was more seamless, she really has a beautiful voice and I'm really glad I got the chance to see her. I've seen Jill before and she has an amazing voice, but there are definitely some parts where I preferred Elena's vocals.
So if Jill is still out, don't worry; you're in for a treat.
Sidebar, Lisa Brescia was on as Marian again at the Friday matinee and was fantastic as usual; whoever cast this show managed to find some really spectacular understudies. You have nothing to worry about if someone's out of the show.

Posted: 11/26/05 at 10:46pmThanks for the info, andy. I have heard great things about Elena, and I'm glad she's doing so well and is having the opportunity to go on. I really want to see Maria, though, and I hope she's back by tomorrow. I saw Lisa in Aida and I thought she was wonderful so I know she'll be great, but I've really been looking forward to seeing Maria's performance.

Paice was back in at 2pm today. I was kinda bummed, not that I don't enjoy ms. Paice, but I was looking forward to seeing Elena in the role. Ah well, some other time
I did see Brescia today, and I found her very good, perhaps better with the raw vocals than Friedman, but I still missed Ms. Friedman. Friedman is a STAR, and while Brescia was very very very very good, I missed Friedman in some moments.

Posted: 11/27/05 at 3:10amWIW understudies are the most impressive group of performers I've ever seen. Was at the same performance as AndyF, with AndyF... and yes, Elena was SO good... I wouldn't hesitate to see any of the understudies in any of the roles, and I hope no one else does either... I know you all have high expectations for the orignal cast (from London) but please don't turn your heads on Elena, Lisa, etc. You're in for QUITE a treat if you catch them in the show...
chances are AndyF is posting above or below me...

At the stage door on Saturday, Jill Paice said that she had been out because she was sick and NOT because she wanted the time off at Thanksgiving. She sounded great and didn't sound sick at all. So she should be in from now on.
I'm a little concerned about how well the show is selling. I was surprised that it was on the TKTS board (although only at 35%) on Saturday night, especially considering that it was a holiday weekend and only a week after opening.

I wouldn't be worried.
First of all, their attendance is through the roof. Two weeks ago they were at 96% and last week they're up to 100.6%.
In terms of seats sold, they came in fifth....behind Wicked, The Lion King, Mamma Mia! and Spamalot, which isn't terrible company considering those 4 are the shows that have consistently been doing the best for quite a while. And The Woman in White only did 7 shows last week while the 4 above it (and the 3 below it - The Phantom of the Opera, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Producers) all did 8.
Yes, they took a huge blow to their gross (falling from $778k 2 weeks ago to $608k), but with attendance like theirs, that'll climb right back up as soon as the discounts disappear, which they have begun to (the show isn't on Theatermania.com or BroadwayBox.com anymore, and at TKTS they're usually only discounting the tickets 35%). Wicked opened in October 2003, discounted tickets were available through March 2004 and just look how it's doing now.
Anyway, it's Andrew Lloyd Webber; the man is a machine. In January, The Phantom of the Opera will become the longest-running show on Broadway, taking the title from Cats, also by Webber.
Aside from the statistics, the show has a stellar cast (including some amazing understudies), a gorgeous score and a really interesting and different story.
The Woman in White isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Maria and Jill are both back.
And the theater seemed quite full today.
