I was reading the people Extra on "Desperate Housewives" and it talked about Joely Fisher since she has a role on it this season. It mentioned that she is "plotting to return to Broadway in a revival of Funny Girl."
Huh???
I consider myself an avid follower of Broadway news and this came as quite a shock.
I realize she may have been a good Sally Bowles-can she handle Fanny Brice?
I think she is A) Too pretty and B) Too old. Fanny is in her teens when she show begins. I have heard talk of Ana Gasteyer in the role and that makes more sense-though she is older too. But Joely Fisher? Have I missed something? Thoughts please.

Posted: 9/29/05 at 9:30amYeah, thats just PR from her agent. "Plotting" = desperate to get the role. It'll never happen.

"She'd be awful in Funny Girl, and most other stage musicals."
What makes you say that? What musicals have you seen her in?

Posted: 9/29/05 at 10:03amWow, it just goes to show how totally different people can feel about the same thing. I saw "Cabaret" four times, twice with her, and she was the best Sally I saw. She took me by surprise...I was a small fan from her work on "Ellen," I thought she was enjoyable on that show...so, when I saw she was in "Cabaret," I went, "Oh, she sings..." Boy does she ever. And with such pure emotion and power. I'd LOVE to see her in a revival of "Funny Girl." She needs to work more in musicals on Broadway...she's great!

She's fantastic onstage. I don't know if she's young enough for FUNNY GIRL, but is Gasteyer? I've seen Joely in more than one musical performance, and she is immensely talented.

i think she is definitely talented, but she is too old for fannie brice. julie styne was always casting a revival which never happened, over the years he "promised" the role to such diverse women as karen mason, ann hampton callaway and taylor dayne. i prefer living with my fantasies of the original than seeing any of those 3 ladies -- estimable as they are.

Posted: 9/29/05 at 10:51amI think it's a case of molehill to mountain. There's nothing about this happening or with her in it. And it's really not a very good show anyway. It was a hit because of Streisand, but that's it.
