Should Kander retire from the scene as it is obvious that without Ebb, as talented as he is, he will not be the force he once was. I would rather see him get his 2 last works with Ebb either on or off Broadway and recorded for posterity?
His latest work got roasted in the press and now may be a time to hang them up .

I mean, if you read the "critic" in the NY Post, he got roasted. Newsday's review was pretty glowing and Brantley liked it. And frankly, writers don't write for critics. At least, the writers I love and respect don't. And John doesn't write for critics, and I respect him. He's doing different, exciting work and I think he ought to keep going. And I know he will. And I love Fred Ebb's work, but I don't think he was the "secret weapon" in K&E. Nether was Kander. They both were. And that's sadly over, and it's time for JK to explore and continue.
