Amazing news for Bat Boy fans.. looks like the movie is happening with John Landis confirmed to direct !!
That's a great choice of director.

Good...I hope Kerry will be in it.
I really hate the sudden musical-movie surge, though. I hope they don't mess Bat Boy up.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see a Little Shop-type movie that spoofs the genre, while still being what it is. I like this, actually...

Why? It will be nice to see something like this that have not had an opportunity to see at all. I'm extremely happy movie-musicals are coming back. It's about time.

Yikes. There are no helicopters in Bat Boy are there?

It just seems to me that the focus sometimes goes more to Hollywood casting than talent casting...Like Nicole Kidman as Ulla? Richard Gere as Billy?
Plus, and I know it's imposible to take a show directly from the stage and put it on film, I just don't like the changes they make. I mean, it's a personal opinion, and if they come out, I'll watch them. I just don't think they really have a chance to do justice to the musicals.
oh lord here we go. bwaymyway do you realize that "BatBoy" will not be the first stage musical adapted to the screen. musicals have made the leap from the stage to screen for decades now, not just as frequently in the last decade or two.
just because something originated on the stage doesn't make that version better. that's a matter of opinion. there have been movie versions of stage musicals that have even improved on the original source material (e.g. west side story, sound of music, my fair lady).
it's a positive thing that the movie industry is looking to the stage for material. it's the perfect venue to bring this material to a broader audience. it's also a good way to save the show for posterity.

I think this is going to be great. I'd be willing to bet that may gets asked to play the boy.

i'm ll for a larger than life look at Deven may. The boy has the looks and the phenominal talent. WHY isn't he on broadway????
Deven would be great to see, but unfortunately, even though I'm a Kerry fan, I doubt she will be cast. I still can't wait to see it I love this show.

It would be awesome if Kerry were cast again. I never actually got to see her in it, but the CD is awesome, and I got to see the show, so that was fun too. Whee! Now I'm all excited!
Kerry has to be in it lol! I hope she is! I am a huge Bat Boy fan, I would love to see a movie of it, but I hope it keeps the thing "spoofy" and hope it doesn't turn out desperate looking it is possible, but I don't know much about the director so I will take your guys word.
It is indeed official:

Wow. I'm very surprised.
And delighted.
And that is a good choice of director.
This is way cool, but I can't see it being a mainstream hit. Perhaps it will go for a cult following
Bat Boy the musical the movie is an amazing idea, and John Landis is probably the perfect director for the project.
This is just absolutley a dream come true for me! Ever since I bought the Bat Boy Off-Broadway Cast Album, back when none of my friends had heard of it, I knew it was going to the big screen!!! Well now it's a cult hit and IS being turned into a movie. Now instead of making people listen to the CD to find out how great it is, I can just make them watch it!
Heres praying for a Deven/Kerry/Scott/Katlin reunion

I know this is ridiculously early but I'm watching the Standing Ovations 2 DVD, SO...does anybody have any clue if they're throwing in the new song?

I am ridiculously excited about this!
Mr Landis can be a "difficult" personality to deal with. I hope all of the cast & crew go thru his production partner Leslie instead of having to deal w him! Good luck & G*d bless!!

Hey everyone-
Don't ask me how I found this thread cause I haven't a clue...I was searching for something and this came up. Anyway- I am in a program (60 college kids) and John Landis's son Max goes here. Max is a weird child...he's nutso and he can be really mean and annoying but anyway I could totally see Max being Bat Boy...haha- just picturing it makes me laugh. haha...
Obviously Max isn't gonna be Bat Boy but I still thought it was funny. Bat Boy is quite weird often and I think Max, in this case, exceeds the limit. Plus, he can't sing for his life! Acting- eh-eh...he sure puts on a good act...lol. And dancing- when I see Max dance...*rolls eyes*
I do know someone that was actually Bat Boy at their University...
Anyway- just thought I'd add a comment and maybe bring the thread back to life...
