re: COMPANY mention on The View today Mar 12 2007, 06:01:32 PM
All she did was hold up the program, and they showed some footage (looked like it was from the commercial). She said something about Raul starring and that she has heard it's brilliant but hasn't seen it yet, and everyone in the audience got tickets. Nothing really earth shattering...I got excited and ran to the TV when I heard her say "Raul Esparza" thinking there was going to be a performance I hadn't heard about, but sadly no.

re: Weird and/or Random Broadway References Jul 26 2006, 03:05:34 PM
There have been several "Fiddler" references on Gilmore Girls...I was recently watching a re-run from a few seasons ago, and Rory was making some phone calls for someone, and when she asked who was next on the list, they replied "Sheldon Harnick" ("Fiddler"'s lyricist). That was the most subtle one I've seen or heard on that show...and I was the only one laughing at my house.

I'm loving these new songs!! They are timely since I've currently been playing Dog Eared obsessively :)

Long story, but I was sick when I saw "Sweeney", so I didn't stage door. As it happened, our hotel was really close to the O'Neill theater, and when my mom was leaving to get me some medicine about an hour after the show, she saw Michael still at the stage door. She got him to sign a Playbill she still had in her purse, and she relayed my personal opinion that I thought "Sweeney" was robbed at the Tonys. She said he seemed really genuinely surprised she said that, and that he was really graci

Moxie: Hear, hear. Gah...I wish I had the whole flippin' thing! That clip, however...hell's yeah. And now I need to rent "The Mexican" :)

re: Michael Cerveris Appreciation Thread Jul 5 2006, 12:23:56 PM
I just had to add my love for Mr. Cerveris!!! I thought he was so incredible in "Sweeney"...I agree with everything that BlueRoses said about his performance/hotness. And so humble!! I've been fangirling so much since seeing the show (last week), that I'm currently getting up the nerve to write him a little letter (I've never done that before, so I feel sort of silly, but I gotta!). Seeing him performing live made me mourn even more deeply for my lost TiVo of the Lincoln Center "Passion"--I

re: Hilarious Comments Overheard By Tourists and Audience Members Jul 1 2006, 06:22:11 PM
This is the most hysterical thread EVER. At Drowsy last Saturday night: Woman 1 Behind Me: Who is this Sutton Foster girl, I've never heard of her? Woman 2 Behind Me: Oh, I think she was on some sitcom a while back. Woman 1: Really? Woman 2: Yes, I'm almost positive. I don't really remember what show, though... Woman 1: Oh, well it says here she was in "Grease"! She must be good! Oy...I guess the Tony Award/nominations don't validate her talent at all

Agree with many of the people already listed, but I have to add Michael Cerveris. Tommy, Hedwig, AND Sweeney? Come on!

re: Maria Friedman cast in Broadway WOMAN IN WHITE Jul 15 2005, 11:32:42 AM
I was able to talk to Angela Christian after seeing the last matinee on the 9th, and she said she IS going with the show to Broadway! The only other person I talked to (about going to Broadway),was Maria Friedman who said she was and she was very excited about it!

re: Glenn Close and Ewan McGregor in Sunset Blvd! Jul 11 2005, 05:45:39 PM
I just got back from London, where I saw Ewan in "Guys & Dolls", mostly because he is my sister's favorite actor. I have to say, he really is a good actor--I've really enjoyed him in other movies, and he was pretty good in G&D. And frankly, I didn't like his singing in "Moulin Rouge", he was too shouty or something. He always sounded strained, and sort of pushing. But in G&D, you could tell that the vocal coaches had been working with him...he was much more restrained, and really wasn't that

re: Ever cried during the overture? Jun 24 2005, 11:41:20 PM
Yes! I cried during the overture when I saw the most recent national tour of "Peter Pan" with Cathy Rigby. "Peter Pan" was the first musical I was ever introduced to (I have the VHS of the Mary Martin special), and I had never seen an actual stage production of it. It was such a dream come true for me to actually see it, and a very emotional personal thing for me.

Wicked songbooks Jun 13 2005, 02:05:43 PM
Sorry if this has already been posted in the past...I tried searching, but you type in "Wicked" and a LOT comes up!! I was just wondering if anyone could tell me which "Wicked" songbook would be a better buy. I know there is a piano/vocal edition, and then another edition that does not have the vocal line in the piano part, rather a condensed orchestration. I prefer my songbooks to be in the original keys used in the shows on Broadway...are either of these in the original keys? Which

re: what was your first broadway experience? May 31 2005, 11:06:41 PM
First professional show: the Carousel national tour with Patrick Wilson & Jennifer Laura Thompson as Curly & Julie!! That was probably when I was about 9...I think. First Broadway show: Kiss Me, Kate revival with BSM & Marin Mazzie!!

re: Least favorite Broadway show? Feb 26 2005, 04:11:24 PM
Yeah, seriously, there IS someone who hates Hello Dolly & The Music Man....I am another person who is a little creeped out by Carol Channing, but that aside, the music from both of those shows just really annoys me. Just my opinion...I love most all other "classic" musicals, those two just don't really do anything for me!

Hello Dolly, The Music Man, Mamma Mia ...I just HATE the music.
