I love you, Corine, and I ADORE John Lloyd Young even more, but I must say, sista girl, you seem to be the most HARDCORE #1 fan of anyone who does an interview with you. (For example, we get it by now: Felicia P. Fields is God's gift to heaven on earth, praise the Lord, hallelujah, mizmor l'david!) You might want to be a little more subtle from now on. Remember, less is more.

John Lloyd Young so deserved this. He was just phenomenal when I saw Jersey Boys last year especially when he sings falsetto. It's just such a great honor for him.

The Gershwin Lobby is the "official" Hall of fame. It doesn't seem to have any "new" talent there. So as of now that seems more appropriate.
I don't seem to recall any press coverage of the inductions? Has there been press coverage of the Gershwin Hall of Fame inductions in the past?

Where is it written that there has to be press coverage of inductions? Lack of it does not make it any less official. I believe that they do mention it in the press though. And to an above comment about jealousy: there are many more deserving performers than JLY who deserve it. He's an ok singer, and I'm certainly not impressed with his acting. What makes him any more deserving than, say, Dan Fogler, who at least CREATED his character as opposed to copying it (and he was at least nominated for a Tony, and won).

Who said there had to be press coverage for it to be legitimate? Just seems weird that these caricature reveals get coverage, yet something more prestigious like induction to the Hall of Fame wouldn't.

This argument will hold water in June, after JLY has not been nominated and does not win, two things that are very unlikely to happen.
JLY created a character the same way anyone else does. Sure, he had some reference material, but all actors create characters based on something (friends, images, memories, etc.) When Antony Sher did his famous Richard III he based his physical performance on a spider. JLY based his work on what he learned about Frankie Valli, then translated that into a performance. This is exactly what Ben Brantley was talking about when he compared JLY's work to Philip Seymour Hoffman's in Capote: it went beyond an impersonation into a full fledged characterization.
Actors all over town are seething with jealousy at what's happened to JLY. It's every actor's dream - you get your shot, the critics write you love letters, your show is a massive hit, and suddenly the world gets handed to you on a platter. So you'll forgive me for maintaining that theater people badmouthing JLY and his performance are so jealous they're spitting blood.
But hey, if his work didn't move you, it just didn't move you.

Since when is Sardi's a wall of fame anyway? Yes, the GERSHWIN has the actual hall of fame and that has theater legends as it SHOULD. I've always looked upon the caricatures at Sardi's as more reflective of the current theater scene. Which is why it's an honor. Of the current theater season, you were selected above the other talented performers to represent it.
They add stuff from the new theater seasons all the time. Last season they added Norbert Leo Butz, John Lithgow, Greg Jbara... And I betcha you could be applying your arguments about JLY's "validity" to *them* as well if you really wanted to. Also, the Dan Fogler comment might have worked better in reference to last season and these people. Where were the complaints about caricatures last season, eh?

Tony's has the "Wall of Fame."
