Wasn't Joe Wright supposed to direct this? The article says Stephen Daldry was rumored at one point, I'd have loved to see that. I thought Kiera Knightley was pretty much a given, but it seems like she isn't exactly a sure thing. Wonder who they are going to get for the roles. I'd love a Carey Mulligan/Colin Firth pairing, or why not a Carey Mulligan/Peter Sarsgaard reunion? Mulligan is so fantastic and fascinating in AN EDUCATION, not to mention she looks so much like Audrey Hepburn during the Paris sequence. I think she'd give us a great film Eliza (not a fan of Hepburn's performance in the film).

John Madden is in talks to direct Columbia Pictures' redo of the classic musical "My Fair Lady."

Madden, who is completing production on the Helen Mirren starrer "The Debt" for Miramax and Marv Films, will ramp up the search for his leading lady and man in the new year.

Though Kiera Knightley has been circling the project for some time, there is no formal agreement for her to play Eliza.

Variety Article

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

I don't care if Julie Andrews is Eliza, we don't need another MY FAIR LADY movie.

I think Carey Mulligan's undeniable resemblance to Hepburn would be a compelling reason NOT to cast her as Eliza.

And I'm still rooting for Hugh Laurie as Higgins.

Have him stick to Football.

"If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn't help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we've got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don't want to do it." -Stephen Colbert

This is encouraging. Although I still agree with the overall opinion that a remake is not necessary, since it apparently is going to happen, let it be done well. Keira Knightly is gorgeous but is musically deficient for the role of Eliza. Not sure about Madden as director but overall I find this good news.
