In the temple scene Jesus does sing "MY temple should be a house of prayer" not "the temple" or "God's temple"
To me that sets right there that the character believes he is the son of God

It shows that he's a socially-minded reformer who has come to expect the Temple to be a place of worship, not a market. The temple he knew isn't there. "My temple should be a house of prayer..." The bread slices both ways, AEA AGMA SM.

Going back to JOSEPH and the post about it not lasting long on Broadway in the 90's....
It was always marketed as a limited engagement in NY, as advertised in the TV spot http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQVXciXe5t8
Prior to hitting Broadway, that specific production (led by Michael Damien) played for a while in LA quite successfully, and San Francisco at the Pantages and Golden Gate Theatres respectively. You could almost classify it as a three-city tour. It's possible that the production recouped a significant amount before even hitting Broadway.
