I'm planning on auditioning for the show, but I'm not fimiliar with the show at all... I need to rent the DVD... But, can any tell me about male characters in the show? Besides Joseph, what other lead guy roles are there? Thanks!

90% of the show is male-oriented. You have all the brothers - 11 of them. Some have solos ("Benjamin Calypso", "Those Cannan Days"), and all of them are required to be good singers and dancers. If you're older, or play older, there's Jacob (Joseph's father), the Pharaoh (An Elvis type of character; should be very sexy, well built, and have a good rock/pop voice); and Potiphar, the man who buys Joseph into slavery. He has a cute vaudeville number, and has some solo lines. Obviously, the main part is Joseph. But there's PLENTY for men to do in the show.
Pharaoh is probably the coolest role in the show, in my opinion. Potiphar isn't that great, but he does have his own song, so that is something to consider. Jacob is very small, so it would probably be better to settle for a brother because you'll have much more fun than if you were Jacob.
Also, there is the Baker and the Butler, both whom have solos in 'Go Go Go Joseph!', and that is probably the best song in the show.
I've played a brother three times... sang "Cannon Days" one of them, was a Swing the other... Most deffinitely one of the most fun roles to play! It's just full out singing and dancing for about 30 mins in Act 1 and then a long break after intermission and then like 30 mins in Act 2. Haha -- but it is SOO MUCH FUN!!!
Joseph is one of the most fun shows in theatre.

Thanks guys!!! How old is Joseph supposed to be? Any idea of his range?
May I suggest you check out the Really Useful Group's (ALWs company) website they have video clips, music clips for their shows. Go to "SHOWS" and then click on JOSEPH. I believe you might have to register for the website to hear/see all the clips. But they may have some you can see without joining.
I think the brothers roles are good if you have not done the show before as others said. They have some great songs "Cannan Days" (sp?) is on of my favorites, and the calypsos number song for Benjamin is also good. JOSEPH is one of my fav shows, it also offeres lots of voice ranges for male singers.
It is based on a bible event about JOSEPH and his dreams, thus the title of the show. Anyway, they have a synopsis of the show, etc. Pharaoh is great as he is ELVIS-like.:)
I don't know the age range for JOSEPH, but he has ben played by Donny Osmond and others who were well into their 30s plus.:)

Carolyn

In many professional productions, where the producer has to worry about paying actors, Jacob and Potiphar are played by the same actor.
