I think the producers will probably want to see how these nominations will improve business.

So I hear. And I am in the second row, so the guys on stage are probably going to hear me crying!

Enjoy it! I was in the first row Saturday night, and I didn't want to stand at the curtain call because I didn't want the guys to see me bawling hysterically, lol.

I wasn't sure whether to post this or not... but I'll be brave. I saw it tonight. I thought the performances were absolutely fantastic, but I'm really sorry to say that I just wasn't as blown away by it as many people have been -- and I I was hoping I would be. It was well-written, and well-directed, but I felt like it was *far* too long... and it kind of made me sleepy. I feel terrible and heartless, but I wasn't really emotional at all up until the ending, which was sad, but it didn't move me in any earth-shattering way. I thought the sound design was brilliant, and again, that the actors were all-around amazing, but... I was underwhelmed. re: Journey's End It's certainly not at all bad -- it's very strong, obviously -- so I'm frustrated as to why I wasn't taken with it, but what can you do? =/

It would figure, since we haven't seen each other in an eternity. Sad!

I just got home from the show tonight (and I'm sad to see that I could have met luv and monk and didn't). It was absolutely incredible. I really believe that every one of those men with more than a bit part who didn't get a nomination was snubbed. I definitely need to go back.

Wow, so many BWWers there tonight! Oh, and I wanted to add that I definitely agree with the people who think Hugh Dancy should've gotten a Tony nomination.

Hey, Em - it does happen that even an excellent play doesn't "click" on a particular day. If I am tired, nothing grabs me.

It sounds like the audience was packed with BWWers.

Maybe you're right -- I might feel differently with a bit of distance, or something. I did have a really long day, and I didn't sleep well last night, so who knows? I feel like there's something wrong with me! =P

We rushed, and got great seats -- dead center, front row of the mezz.

Eh, I might as well post on this too...first of all, it was great meeting you Emcee, and it's too bad I didn't get to meet everyone else who was there tonight, that would have been cool.

I did enjoy the show but I wasn't blown away. I thought Stark Sands gave an incredible performance and definitely deserves his Tony nod. I think Hugh Dancy gives an excellent performance but I wish he would've toned it down a bit in the first half so that there'd be more of a build for his character. Boyd Gaines had a strong presence as the older officer but I'm not sure if his performance is Tony worthy.

Overall I thought the play was just too long, and though there were definitely some poignant moments, there weren't enough to keep me interested 100% of the time. There are a slew of great performances, and the production elements are all exactly what they should be, but I wasn't particularly moved, save a few moments here and there.

Guess I might as well post, too. I feel like I totally missed something. For me, there was absolutely no emotional investment. That sounds so horrible! But what can you do?

I thought Dancy and Sands gave excellent performances; I think I was expecting more from Gaines, though. I'm still not sure if it was him or the part that should be faulted.

While the front mezzanine seats were great, perhaps this is the type of show that benefits from being right up close. With the lighting being so dark, it was often really difficult to see the actors faces.

I loved how well they used the moments where the stage was totally empty and there was just noise coming at you. I thought it was really daring and brilliant. There are few productions where that kind of thing would work.

I loved the lighting, or should I say the lack thereof. And I find it totally ironic that what's perhaps the darkest show on Broadway was nominated for a Best Lighting Tony.

I saw this show a few weeks ago...Yep, I was sitting up close, and felt like I was squinting the entire time...I can't imagine viewing the show from the back of the theatre.

As this was my first play, I didn't know what to expect, and I have to admit, while watching I too felt a little sleepy! (I chalked it up to being overworked, but now I'm also thinking the lighting played a part?)

I was impressed by the ending. I thought I knew what was coming, and I wasn't expecting to have it affect me, but it did. As I was giving my standing ovation, I found a few tears sliding down my cheeks! Thinking about it gives me chills...

Overall, I thought it was a very good play. With all of the Tony noms, I hope more people go to see it!

Since the Tony nods came out and some of you guys went, how crowded was the theater? Do you think it was more crowded than the usual 20-30%?

I went to today's matinee, and sat in the fourth row. The orchestra was completely full! Don't know if anyone was in the mezz or balconey.

I didn't bring enough tissues! I may be a sucker for WWI drama and the British stiff upper lip kind of honor, but I was completely involved from the first moment. It helps to be up close. I loved the Boyd Gaines character, and I thought he handled it beautifully without becoming maudlin. Dancy and Sands were wonderful, and Jefferson Mays proved that there are no small parts - I kept wishing he would come back on stage.

*SPOILER*

If there was a weak moment, it was STanhope's confrontation with the slacker officer - I think the dialogue became a little stilted for that, and once that scene was over, I was fine. The form of the curtain call completely took my breath away.

I am glad I saw this, and would strongly recommend it.

Totally OT - in conversations with people around me, one LOVED Coram Boy and one HATED it! But, of course, they had all seen it - which makes the box office happy.
