That first picture is horrible. The 2nd one is slightly better. There's no way to make Judy Kaye look as menacing as Patti did/does.

I don't care about how she looks (actually I think she looks fine for Lovett) I am just so thrilled to have someone other than Patti in this role. If I can't get rush tickets on wednesday for 3penny, I'll see Sweeney again for Judy. I bet she'll be great.

if they were going to make all the lovett's have a black wig, why can't they all have the SAME style? Judy seems to have the same style as the one dorothy wore on the regis and kelly performance, as opposed to the sleeker one patti wears

I'm assuming it has to do with the actor's individual hairstyle. Patti sports a bobbed wig, which is identical to her natural bob.

The color of the hair doesn't matter at all. The problem, due to that pictures would rather be, she doesn't look eerie in any way. Which she at least a little bit should. She looks like a loving mother. Well sort of.

Both Patti and Judy look far too polished and Broadway, not enough grit or Eastend - too glam and not enough fur coat and no nickers.

Karen Mann was the real thing; I miss her leaopard-skin coat and trumpet-playing

Judy looks too frumpy and not as menacing, more having the exterior Angela seemed to have. Oh well, I like it, but nobody can master the sex look like Patti :-O

Hmm, no Angela Lansbury had something natural witty in her way which Judy lacks, too soft for Mrs. Lovett.

Having seen her perform many times, I think she'll be great. Part of the fun of seeing different actresses perform this role is that it's largely up to them how manipulative and co-conspiratorial they make the character. She won't be Patti, but then, Patti wasn't Angela Lansbury or Dorothy Loudon, either - both of whom were also brilliant.

Well, not better in the sense of more attractive, but I totally get her casting now (I didn't quite get Judy being cast in this production before seeing these pics).

30/90- I thought this was the same wig that I saw Dorothy Stanley wearing when the cast performed on Regis & Kelly during Tony week.
