I'm planning on making a NYC trip at the beginning of July. It's long overdue as my last theater binge was in June of last year. I've since moved out to Boston, which is great as it will hopefully allow me to make more frequent, shorter trips to NYC, and will allow me to see a number of shows on tour or pre-Broadway.
I'm looking at July 1-3, both because I could get a decent hotel rate and with the holiday, I can take advantage of a Friday matinee that might not ordinarily occur.
Currently I'm thinking about 7 shows:
Act of God, Les Miz, Something Rotten, Fish in the Dark, On the Town, Curious Incident, and Churchill
Something Rotten, On the Town, and Curious Incident are more or less locked in. There seem to be very few matinees on Thursday 7/2, so Churchill is in that slot for the time being.
That leaves Act of God, Les Miz, and Fish in the Dark as possibilities for the final show. If I can somehow swing a late departure Friday night, that would allow me to see two of these three, but I'm not sure how practical that is.
Les Miz will probably be the fallback in the event, since it'd be the cheapest of those three. Plus, another play would balance things out. Any thoughts are appreciated and welcomed! If anyone is aware of any other matinees on that Thursday, I'm happy to consider that as well. Churchill seems to have rave reviews...I think Mamma Mia might have a matinee that day as well, and I've never seen it...
Thanks all!
Bear in mind that re Fish On The Dark, David will be gone and replaced by Jason Alexander.
Other choices might be Beautiful , OTT, Gentlemens Guide, Kinky and King and I if available.
Hope this helps.
I am going to the Little Shop of Horrors matinee that Thursday at City Center starring Jake Gyllenhaal. I think it is probably sold out but I'm not sure.
If you try to do 2 shows on Friday, Act of God, Fun Home, Hedwig, and Fish In The Dark would be good choices for the evening since these shows are all a little shorter and you would get out a little earlier, especially Act of God.
Gigi is my favorite, don't miss it.

"Gigi is my favorite, don't miss it."
I think it's admirable that you keep shilling for Gigi in advice threads where the original poster doesn't even mention nor has shown any interest in it. You should work in sales.
I have seen every single musical playing on Broadway and Gigi is my favorite by far. The most romantic, glamorous, magical show out there right now. I don't want people to miss it just because a few jaded critics thought it didn't need to be edited to be more accessible to a new generation.
On The Town is my 2nd favorite and Something Rotten my 3rd if anyone cares...haha.
If you think it's just a few jaded critics who didn't like Gigi, then you're clearly not dealing with reality. If you enjoyed it, great but at some point you need to come to terms with the fact that very few share your opinion.
God, sometimes I really love FishermanBob. Bob, are you available to comment on other forums?

Les Mis all the way. I saw it and it was absolutely incredible
Agree re Les Miz but we did see it with Ramiloo (excuse me if misspelled) . Hopefully, his replacement is just as good.

Fish in the Dark has Friday matinees. (I haven't seen it, but I am going to a Friday matinee next month when I'm in town.) That may help you squeeze in another show.
I haven't seen nearly as many shows as the others on this board and haven't seen all those you mention, but I would add Hand to God for consideration if (and only if) you like dark humor. My favorite play I've seen in a long time.

Ramin will still be there at the time of their trip
Thank you for the info on Friday matinees @ FITD. Maybe I will actually catch it now. Not to be off topic, but if anyone tries to rush it now that Jason Alexander is taking over please report back. I'm assuming it is way easier now that David has departed.

Thanks for all the input thus far!
Roxy, thanks for the additional suggestions. I saw Gentleman's Guide last summer, and plan on catching Beautiful and Kinky Boots when the tours come through Boston. And oddly enough, Fish in the Dark is actually a more attractive option for me with Jason Alexander instead of Larry David.
Checked into Little Shop of Horrors and it is indeed sold out...unless I want to make a $2500 donation...so no, not an option, thanks though! Also appreciate your insight into shows that would be easier to shoehorn in on Friday night. I could probably make a late departure work logistically, at this point it's a matter of budget more than anything.
Sadly our resident Gigi fanatic spoke too soon, as it'll close before I get there. While I appreciate the effort...wouldn't have gone to see it anyway.
Always enjoy reading what Bob has to say. Les Miz is still a solid contender, but I had hoped to see it when Andy Mientus was in it. Regardless, it'll remain a possibility.
I may be back in August for a couple days if I can swing a work-related trip. That could also influence what I see in July. Thanks again all!

The extension of Heisenberg throws another option into the mix, unless of course the two weeks sell out before I make a decision this weekend.
Big fan of MLP, would really like to see her on stage. Trouble is, I'm not sure which show it should replace on my list.
I would postpone Les Miz and/or On The Town in favor of Heisenberg. It's unlikely to extend again and absolutely should not be missed.
You can see Les Miz on your August business trip. On The Town was nothing special if it happens to close before you have another opportunity to see it.
I'm in NY (from Boston), July 1-6 as well. Couldn't pass up a great hotel rate and have already bought FITD, Something Rotten and Wolf Hall. There are a handful of Off Bway shows I hope to see as well. Enjoy your holiday!
