WE & another couple saw Match today. We really enjoyed it. It is a shame it is closing. Langella was phenominal. True the major part was Langella's but Liotta was good with what he had to work with.
Roxy this is amazing because I was just thinking about why Match didn't find an audience. I found it so enjoyable. I laughed and just loved it. Frank Langella is so damn good. It's really a shame that it is closing so soon.
Here, again, is proof positive that it takes all kinds to make a world. I think Match is AWFUL -- every bit of entertainment comes from Langella's performance because there's nothing in the script, Liotta is not at all compelling, Jane Adams plays the same character she plays regardless of what role she is cast in, and the story is predictable and dull. But, I'm glad you had fun.
I liked Match but thought the show was all about Langella.
I do think it is a good play and it should be around.
The toe nail clippings I did not understand and I did not think it was the best play in the world.
It was good though and it should have been able to run a longer time. Very sad.

Corine, I thought the fingernail/toenail clipping saving was hilarious. I had an aunt who saved used teabags in a big jar, and I thought of her. It's just an eccentricity and it did tie in with the story. Well, I'd see anything Frank Langella was in and he never disappoints. The show was very entertaining and that's good enough for me.
By the way, when Hugh Jackman was on "The View" recently, Barbara Walters was talking up "Match" saying how much she loved the show, which was odd because the interview was supposed to be about Hugh. I think she was appealing to people who saw BFO and figured they should also see Match. It was still strange to me.

I enjoyed Match very much. I thought is was a well written light drama that offers some racy talk, a fairish amount of laughter and ever a happy ending. Langella was wonderful. A tall, commanding artist with eloquent eyebrows, a seductive smile and extavant gestures, he flaunts the flashy role of Tobey like a sorcer's bespangled robe. Langella is totally credible as the dance teacher and apparently is enjoying a fabulous time acting up a storm. Ray Liotta works up a good head of steam for his clashes iwth Langella, but his charcter is absent for most of the second act. Liotta and Adams just seem to fade in the background when Langella is on. I am sorry to see it closed.

LC1965...I am in your camp
Langella, I thought, was doing all the work in a weak show. I found it terribly predictable
But I am glad others enjoyed it...after all, as the saying goes...what a dull world if everyone agreed with everyone all the time
Hear, Hear, Ruffian! Let's disagree as much as possible! :) BroadwayLady -- are you advertising to be a reviewer? Work it, babe!
I am awways working it hon!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously, I did like the show.
What did you think about Tobi offering cunnilingus to the girl who was supposed to be his daughter in law? I know it was a nice gesture and it would help them both to feel something they haven't had in their lives for a long time but it was kind of creepy to me.

I think that was written in the play merely for shock factor, but as I said earlier, I was too bored to even care.
Only Frank kept me slightly interested, but in the end, I didnt care at all
Ruffian it sure was shocking. I did enjoy it though but since it closed so soon, what do I know?
now that its closed can anyone give a synopsis of what happens i wanna know what the shock was. If you want pm me

ThirdRow...thats just it...it is as if it were simply dropped in merely to shock, as opposed to what would have been said naturally. I never felt the Old Dancer would say that to her. If they were interested in making a connection, there were many other paths to take. The offer of oral sex came out of nowhere. I never thought Frank's character would be interested in the woman sexually.
Thats just my take.
Ruffian although he was bi sexual, I don't think he would have been moved to perform that act on her either.
