Margo:
I don't really believe Prince was incorrect. He wasn't saying that LOVEMUSIK was the first musical at the Biltmore, but (and this is just my opinion) I believe that by saying "staged in the house", he meant really done from scratch in that exact theatre. And by that definition, he's not really wrong...LOVEMUSIK is really (I think) the first original to be "born" there.
HAIR (correct me if I'm wrong) was at the Public originally.
STARDUST was originally done at Theatre Off Park
THE ROBBER BRIDEGROOM was originally done at The Acting Company.
DOONESBURY was of course based on the comic strip, but I don't know anything more about it's original production.

Of course, Ill be the first to ask. how was the set? show curtain?
Two other misbegotten musicals played the Biltmore in the '80s...Reggae, and Honky Tonk Nights.
I don't know how anyone could forget them...they were such big hits.
Here is the front of the Playbill.
They already have that posted on playbill...so for future reference, you don't have to scan.
Generally, they have the playbill cover several weeks before the show even comes ot NY.
I don't think that playbill needs (or should have) color. It's pretty cool black and white.

"And they say I'M tough! Yee-haw!"
No, you're just a guy desperately in need of a new hobby.
Seriously, are there no musicals that you actually like?
Ooooh I can answer some questions about Doonesbury, munkustrap178. I saw it twice. The cast included Mark Linn-Baker (before Perfect Strangers), Gary Beach (before... almost everything!), Lauren Tom (just before she did Hurlyburly... and got nekkid!), and an awesome performance by Kate Burton. The book was funny enough but appealed most to Doonesbury fans (obviously). Gary Trudeau used to write new material every week to keep it topical, but the most exciting thing for this budding set designer (at the time) was watching Gary Beach drive a bulldozer through the set at the end of the show :) The only song I really remember were 'Another Memorable Meal' and 'I Can have it All'. Oh, and I liked Peter Larkin's sets. Any other questions, ask me by PM or we can start another thread, but I dunno who else saw the show :) It might be a short thread!
