I'm rather wary because I've heard that the show compares modern political figures to Nero. I know that people hate a lot of politicians today, but I can't think of anyone even comparable to Nero--not even the politicians that I personally dislike. In the USA, anyway, that is.
It's sort of like Godwin's Law, I guess.

True, but that's very general. It sounded like she thought they were calling out specific politicians or making a strong political statement or something, but I thought it came off just as a historical musical. I think that any indirect comparison to modern politics would be subjective, at least in the unfinished version of the show.

I know. I haven't seen Nero, so I'm just saying.
The comparison could be there without the show taking pains to say, "look, this guy is just like Present Politician X because he does A, B, and C." I've read some stuff that makes it seem like the comparison is at least intended to be there. I just hope that if it is, it's very subtle, because historical shows are most effective when they allow the history to speak for itself and don't feel the need to overtly point out the similarities to the present.

Well I didn't catch anything, but that could just be me being oblivious, which we know is highly possible :-P
But like I said, the music sounds great. We just have to keep in mind it is still in the early stages, and I'm sure that there will still be plenty of changes to come, so we'll see what becomes of it.

Well, there was a bring the troops home/no escalate the troops, scene, but unfortunately that rings true in almost any time or era.
The main character is an attention grabbing, drinking, morally challanged, teenager with a pushy attention grabbing "over the hill" mother who plans every move.
That's not politics that's reality TV.
