Just got an advance copy of "As I Am" and so far enjoying it. It's heavy on the Christian music, which I personally love and sing every week at my regular Sunday gig. Arrangements are top notch. A few song choices are up for grabs as far as what I would think appropriate for her type of voice, but her "Joyful Joyful" is glorious.
I can post song list if desired.
Sure, can you post one? Thanks!

Does she sing any of the songs in her opera voice?

It's a mix of vocal styles, dependent on the song. There's a few country songs, some gospel, etc.
1) It Will Be Me
2) Word of God Speak
3) Because He Lives
4) Abide In Me
5) Borrowed Angels
6) There Will Never Be Another
7) Poor, Wayfaring Stranger
8 ) Joyful, Joyful
9) The Song Remembers When
10) Power
11) Just As I Am
12) Upon This Rock
13) Taylor, the Latte Boy

Does she ever hit any of her trademark high notes?

Color me jealous, Singing.
Ooh, you're so lucky! How did you get an advance copy? I can't wait to hear it, I'm really looking forward to hearing her sing some of the songs on there.

I think it's delightful! I am not religous (AT ALL) and yet this doesn't bother me. It sounds more like a contemporary country album if you can ignore the God-talk. In fact, KC sounds a bit like Dolly Parton to me! She sounds great! And Joyful Joyful is wonderful- a very fun arrangement!
And it's nice to hear "Taylor the Latte Boy" whenever I want now!
Joe, you have a copy too?!?

Yes I do! It's a tradeoff for the crappy hours and low pay I get as the manager of a really big Music/Video store.
The discount and the promos are all that make it bearable!
Well and years ago, record labels bought tickets to the shows they recorded, but no more!
Ah, that makes sense.
I am so looking forward to her new album. I will try not to be jealous.

I'm just hoping she threw in some of her crazy high notes somewhere.
It sounds amazing, I can't wait to get a copy!
i love taylor the latte boy, but i don't know if i will like alot of cheno's other songs, i love her, but i don't know if i love her singing all these like church songs, but whatever floats her boat, and she is still gonna get my money

I am a Chicago Boy!
And on third listen I have a little more to say: "Taylor" does indeed seem a little out of place after listening to a dozen songs about Jesus, but it's still nice to have it on a CD. The CD is a little light on the "Opera Voice" as someone put it; It's more of a pop voice with a few moments of Broadway belt. "The Song Remembers When" is pretty nice- I could hear it on Country radio (almost) if country radio played "old fashioned" songs. I'm thinking it will make a great Mother's Day gift for my Mother-in-Law.
KC Clearly loves the Lord on this album, but when her personality bubbles to the top on "Taylor" it makes me really sad we didn't get a real Broadway style record out of her.
She's promoting it like crazy though!
I am also excited about this album- I have a pretty large CCM collection. Though I truly appreciate Kristin's contribution to Broadway, it is nice to see a performer who is known in one genre to do an album that may not appeal to all of her fans, but is clearly one that means a lot to her. Its nice to see her stick to her roots and her faith.
I think that Kristin Chenoweth is amazing, but I'm not a huge fan of church music, being that I'm Jewish. Should I get this?

MFL it's going to have to be your call! I am a hard core Atheist, but religious music doesn't usually bug me. I suggest listening to samples online and see what you think. All the songs except "Taylor" are about "god" or "jesus"; some more explicity than others.
I guess this CD makes me admit: I'd pay to hear KC sing the phone book.
In the first clip she sounds like a country singer!
She really does have a beautiful voice.
At first I wasn't sure what I'd think about the CD because I am not religious at all but I will be the first to admit how wrong I was. I just heard some sample clips of it and I am blown away. I do wish we got a little bit more of her infamous broadway belt but it was still beautiful. I can't wait to get the CD!
