Karmine Alers?
What do you want to know? She auditioned for the OBC along with her sister Yaz. Yaz was cast, Karm wasn't.. Karm came in as a replacement when Yaz left..

Yes! I love Karmine Alers! She is my favorite Mimi and Mark's mom in Rent. Not to mention she is gorgeous and very nice (at least when I met her)
Unfortunately, her website hasn't been updated for a very long time.

I saw her as Mimi twice and thought she was great.

She's currently swinging at Rent. She usually performs at the monthly Rent gigs at the Cutting Room, and I think she's had a few shows at XL. She's one of my favorite Mimis as well. Actually, the only person I like better as Mimi is her sister!

Does anyone know why she stopped playing Mimi and is now an understudy. I've seen Krystal Washington twice and I was not impressed.

cause she asked for too much money and they replaced her.

No.. no one is stupid enough to post a number for you. That is absolutely NONE of your business anyhow.
Fatone is a star name. Alers isn't. If you think he made AS low as the others..........

obviously i do not think ANYONE would answer that. I just do not think she probably asked for tons is my point. I am suprised she asked or why she had to ask. the casts of rent use to have the same salary across the board at one point to show unity and no one was more valuable.

she didn't HAVE to ask for tons.. the producers are notorious cheepskates. why are you surprised she asked?? unity? Hun.. this is a business.. yes, actors stick together, but its a business... and just because they USED to.. doesn't mean a damn thing

I understand that. But I think that was (when they did it) very noble as performers of an ensemble cast. Nice to see sometimes business or no business.

something tells me that there was more motive than nobility there.

fatone got a small salary but he also got a piece of the box office based on increased attendance during his stay. he did it more for the creds than for the money. as for the cast negotiating in unity, not a chance. these producers make sure that never happens.

Krystal Washington was in the non-eq tour of Rent before coming to Broadway. She became Equity for Broadway, and I think was willing to work for less than Karmine was.
Both times I met Karmine she was really nice, willing to stop and talk for a little while. Most everyone I've talked to says she's good about that.

I know Ms. Alers and the idea of you writing you're obsessed with her scares me. I am going to print this whole thread out and show it to her to give her a heads up of what was said here. I will also keep watching it.
Also, I like how all of you "know" why Karmine was moved to swing position. There was more to it than money. So don't make her out to be money hungry because she is far from that. Very far.

People know she is a great performer and a nice person, people who want to comment on why she got bumped I think will only hurt her. I mean let her know if you feel she would want to know. BUT she has way more fans then people who think something negative about the situation. I was not bashing her, I was merely commented on the fact I could not understand why her asking for a bit more money would cause her to be bumped, I think it is sad is more my point that they would do that IF all the chit chat is in essence true.

I'm sure there was more to it then money because she doesnt seem like the type to be like that!

karminefan, i think you're a little bit crazy. I'm sorry if I was being a fan. It's fans who keep actors and actresses employed. i'm sure there is a public figure who you could say you are "obsessed with." Anyway, I doubt you really know her.
And to everyone else, thanks for the answers!

karminefan, if you think Karmine gives a flip about what is said on this message board, then you really don't know her at all. As if she doesn't know she has avid fans. You are going to keep an eye on this thread? What kind of ridiculous statement is that? Good lord.

For the record.. I was only saying "Thank you" to the money hungry part.. no one in the general public knows all that went on... so you can't really say

Sorry... I'm curious - how do you pronounce Karmine?

Posted: 2/10/04 at 7:03pm
Kar-mIne (long "I" sound)
I do believe that is the proper way

Thanks...it drives me nuts when I don't know how to pronounce someone's name. For the longest time I didn't know how to say Marin and it drove me up a wall. And living 3,000 miles away from Broadway I never hear them said aloud.
Karmine is such a pretty name, too. :)
