Kate Reinders

Kate is a great performer. however, i will agree with a few things said. i think at times she comes across as very hyper. if it makes sense, i felt kind of exhausted after watching her do "Popular" cuz i just felt like she kind of was all over the place.
her singing can be strong at times. there were moments in "No One Mourns the Wicked" that i think she nailed. it felt like a natural singing voice. (i believe it was during "and goodness knows the wicked's lives are lonely...") i think if she carried that moment throughout the rest of the role, it would be vast improvement.
i do plan on going back when Ana comes in because i would love to see her as Elphaba. i'm looking forward to see how Kate does then.

Posted: 9/27/06 at 10:37pmSaw Kate as Glinda about a month ago. She was my third Glinda, after Laura Bell and Megan, and unfotunetly was my least favorite. She came out all hyper and bubbly, and I was excited to see where she would take the character. Unfotunately, she was pretty one-note the entire show. I just didn't see any character development from her. She was a little too spazz for me; for instance I just wanted to run up and throw a football helmet on her so she wouldn't harm herself. Instead of arriving on a cart of luggage in the first scene, it would have been more appropriate for her to come in on a shortbus. Sure, "Popular" was hilarious, but nothing else she did in the show made me believe that she cared about Elphaba, or anyone else for that matter. I get the approach she was trying to take, but IMO it just didn't work out.

Posted: 9/28/06 at 6:03amI feel as if Kate Reinders is mocking the role and playing everything for laughs. Yes, I realize that the role of Glinda isn't really a deep, multi-layered character, but in a way, she is. You can play the role as just a silly, dumb blonde, but so can anyone else. There really is a lot you can do with a role like Glinda, but I don't think Kate realizes that.

Posted: 9/28/06 at 8:18amI agree with Joshua too. Glinda may not be Lady Macbeth, but there is a certain depth to the role that the actresses prior to Reinders were able to tap into. With Reinders it's pretty much one note throughout the whole show.

Just an update: I saw Kate as Glinda last night. She was 100% better, physically, vocally, and comically. I'm not sure if it had to do with me coming with low expectations, the fact that I was in an energetic mood, or what. She just made me laugh out loud harder than any other Glinda. However, I was laughing because she was mentally out of control and was selling her soul as an actress to get laughs. To like Kate, you have to have seen Wicked multiple times. You must go with a superb understanding of the plot. You must then pay for cheap seats or go to the lottery. You then must make sure you're in a mood to completely throw the tender meaning and message behind Wicked out the window and decide to laugh at Glinda for being so...mentally insane.
By taking those steps, you will laugh like you've never laughed before.

I think she was amazing! I saw her in Chicago with Ana and those two women have some of the most brilliant chemistry. The story of the two girls and their friendship was absolutely beautiful. I would love to see her again because I'm sure she's gotten better since the early part of her run in Chicago. I thought her singing was quite good, too.
Cheers,
