I've seen her in it. I don't think she is bad, per se, but I think I've been spoiled by having the chance to see Kristin, Jennifer, and Megan do the role before her and they were all phenomenal.
Her voice is a little less powerful than the others, and she doesn't quite put as much 'oomph' into the role as the others did. She is still a wonderful actress and singer, but you might be a little disappointed, especially if you've had a chance to see any of the other three perform the role.
Enjoy the show, though - it's incredible

Please note: I HATE WICKED!
I saw her back in July and thought that she was great. I mean, it's Wicked. It's not that hard to play a dumb blonde (though the scores of fans will advise me otherwise). She's a talented performer, a standout in Gypsy, one of the few tolerable things of Good Vibrations, and a great addition to Wicked. I even said, as I left Good Vibes 2 years ago, that she'll be Glinda someday.
I understand the qualms people have about her, but most of them stem from "well she wasn't like Megan! She doesn't cry during For Good!" I reply "Of course she's not Megan. She's Kate and who cares if she doesn't cry?"
By the by, this entire cast is excellent. I say that having seen it with Idina, JLT, and the others.

But you hated it right?
And Glinda is a difficult role if only for the singing only. Let's not undercut our Broadway performers. They're exercising their talent more than 99% of the rest of the entertainment population.

I saw it in June with Kate, and I thought she was wonderful. While some people just do not like her performance, I think she just does it a little differently than those before her. Either way, she was very funny and had a beautiful voice. Hope you enjoy her!

Posted: 9/25/06 at 4:57pmSaw her in August and thought that she was the best thing during those two and a half hours. I loved the show and was prepared to love Eden but Kate was there.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 5:13pmI thought Kate’s interpretation was very different from the other Glindas. While I prefer Kristin and Megan, I thought she was much stronger than Laura.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 6:30pmI saw her last week and I thought she was great! I'm not a huge fan of the show but it was my second time around and I loved her. Of course, I've only seen JLT to compare but I just enjoyed Kate much, much better.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 6:47pmKate reminded me of Billie Burke, which added a different spin. She also adds a few of her own characterizations to the role. I also liked how she doesn't jump all over the place. When I saw the tour last year, I didn't like how that Glinda kept going over-the-top.

I saw Reinders back in July. She isn't great, but she isn't half bad either. She's improved alot from her Chicago days, and has really started to make this role her own (where as before she was just doing a bad Chenoweth impersonation.) She certainly isn't the best to have played Glinda, but she is also by no means the worst. Overall, I'd say she did a good job. Hopefully you'll enjoy her performance...

Another thing to add is that when Ana joins the cast in October, Kate will probably get even better. I haven't seen them together, but I have heard that they have amazing chemistry. I bet she would be even better.

Posted: 9/25/06 at 9:43pmKate Reinders was a great Glinda. However, I'm not sure I liked her performence. She didn't seem funny to me and she didn't seem perky enough to make people laugh.

I have many issues with Kate Reinders as Glinda...so you won't hear otherwise from me
I have seen her four times. Her acting was so spastic that it made me uncomfortable and I just couldn't find her point of view as Glinda. Her vocals weren't all that impressive; the high notes fluttered out in a thin fashion, that is when she wasn't drowned out by others. I don't see an improvement from her Chicago days; she's still the same frantic over-the-top mess. The show belonged to Kate's colleagues.
enjoy nonetheless!

Kate was my first Glinda in Chicago; I've seen a few others since. I thought she was fantastic, though quite different than anyone else in the role. Her Galinda seems more hyper than airheaded, if I remember correctly. As of Chicago, she wasn't adding in all the random physical comedy that doesn't seem to make much sense. (Can't speak to what she does now.) Her voice wasn't the most thrilling, but she can definitely sing!
Look forward to Kate and Ana together again. They were the best duo I've seen in terms of comedy (and, well, in general, in my opinion). They really had the timing down on all the jokes, adding some I haven't seen with other casts. Their characterizations also mesh well. I haven't seen the Glinda/Elphaba friendship make as much sense as it did when I saw Kate and Ana play it.

Posted: 9/27/06 at 12:45pmI just thought that Kate was a little bit lost, I mean whe you compare her to somebody who really gave a kick ass show like Megan, Kate is just not there, yes she tries very hard and I give her props for that, Its just I cant see where she is desirable, she cant really dance, she cawnt really sing and her acting was almost always off.

Posted: 9/27/06 at 3:20pmHorton, the powers that be obviously saw something in her to give her the role. This is not detracting from your opinion, obviously, but I'm just saying.

Posted: 9/27/06 at 3:33pmI adored Kate in the Chicago production (and in Gypsy), but she seems to have gone downhill since she joined the Broadway cast. I agree with the person who said she needs to eat something.

Posted: 9/27/06 at 3:39pmHaving spoken to her a few times since she joined the Broadway company (she and I have been at the same place at the same time, many times), it seems the powers that be had the reins tightly gripped in Chicago. Broadway was the spot for her to "loosen up."
