Just looked over the Drama Desk nominees.
Let me get this straight. Kelli O'Hara, who gives one of the most moving and touching performances on stage this season ISN'T nominated for Best Performance.
But Eden, an "American Idol" wanna be who thinks that loud singing=talent, GETS a nomination?
I've lots any respect for this organization. Who's next to be nominated? Ryan Seacrest?
eww I missed that she was nominated!! ::Cries::
Are you talking about the Drama League awards?
Those aren't the same thing as the Drama Desk awards and lots of people more deserving then Kelli O'Hara were left out of their list of nominees. There's already been much discussion about it.

I was thinking the same thing....Drama Desk or League?
It has to be. Not the Drama Desk.
The nominations have not been announced yet.
OK Drama League.
Fact is that O'Hara turns in a beautiful and difficult performance playing a metally challenged person. She puts more into her performance than the cardboard cut out known as Eden.
Hell...even the trash bags have more on-stage personality than Eden.

a lot of performances were left out. not to mention all of streetcar.
It's the Drama League and really, why get all bent out of shape over an award that has dozens of nominees per category? The biggest oversight as far as BKLYN goes was Keller not getting one. If memory serves me correctly, she was the one with all the good reviews as well as great word of mouth. They've been shoving Espinosa down our throats so severly, it really doesn't come as such a big surprise, unfortunately. She shouldn't really get any nominations, even where she is lumped in with 60+ others.
I don't pay any attention to the Drama League - they clearly shouldn't be taken seriously.
There is such a malicious spirit on this board. Why can't people state their opinions without getting nasty and going to the negative?
The only awards that mean anything are the Tonys (and that's still debateable). They have like, 50 or so nominators and over 500 voters. The Drama Desk Awards are decided by only 7 people--who cares what they think? The Outer Critics Awards aren't much better.

Not quite, Distinctive Baritone.
For the Tonys, there are 25 to 30 nominators from year to year and roughly 700 voters.
The Drama Desk consists of 130 voting members -- critics, reporters and other journalists.
I was worried there for a moment, thinking, "OMG where have I been? The Drama Desk nominees are out already?"
I respect the Drama Desk awards as well - they almost always give the award to the most deserving. It's not about politics as much as the Tonys are.
What the Tonys and the OScars have in common, as munkustrap somewhat stated, is that it is about 60% of the quality of the performance or show. The rest is about how much attention the show has gotten, if its popular or not, etc.
Drama Desk Awards are the closest we'll ever get where quality is the most important factor.
It doesn't matter that there are many nominations. The fact that this piece of crap was even singled out for recognition (even for a specific performer) makes a scary point..the acceptance of "American Idol" like performers who just scream the highest note but couldn't act their way out of a paper bag (or trash bag to keep it in the BKLYN vein).
Nominations for the 2004/2005 Drama Desk Awards will be announced on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at 10:00 AM at The New York Friars Club, 57 East 55th Street, by Lynn Redgrave (currently starring in The Constant Wife) and Robert Goulet (currently starring in La Cage Aux Folles).
Nominees will be announced in multiple categories honoring excellence during the 2004/2005 New York theatre season. The Drama Desk is the only major theatre award which considers Broadway, Off and Off-Off Broadway equally in all its multiple categories. The Drama Desk membership includes more than 130 voting theatre critics, reporters and editors.
Nominees will receive their official Nomination Certificates at a Reception on Tuesday, May 3, 2005, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, at Arte Cafe, 106 West 73rd Street in Manhattan, home of the Drama Desk Art*Kives.
Actors, playwrights, composers, lyricists, librettists, directors, producers, and designers who are/were represented on Broadway, Off Broadway, and Off-Off Broadway in productions opening between late May 2004 and early May 2005 are eligible to receive a nomination for a Drama Desk Award, which recognizes their outstanding artistic contribution during the 2004-2005 season.
The Drama Desk Awards are one of the most coveted and prestigious awards in the world of the American Theatre. Just a Nomination has the ability to propel a creative artist struggling in relative obscurity to prominence
